Wonka (2023)

Another trip to the Wonka universe
8 December 2023
This movie shows us the back story before Willy Wonka has his chocolate empire. Willy wants to open a chocolate store and has to overcome a few obstacles.

The story is wonderfully quirky, as we know it from the previous films in this universe. The characters and setting also fit perfectly and Hugh Grant is excellent as Oompa Loompa. Unfortunately, the development of the supporting characters was minimal and the story doesn't fit perfectly with the other films. I didn't see the movie in the original version, so the synchro/sound of the singing wasn't that great.

Hopefully we will see more of these movies.

Boring...
17 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I enjoyed the mask and the acting of the creepy clown. But that´s all, I can't even tell if there was a story or what´s the background story, motivation of the clown. Also there are some plot holes in the story, that it is at least sometimes hard to follow. So if you are into the usual jump scares and some slauther of people, which one can see in x different movies in a better quality, go for it. But I´m quite sure that you -like me- will have a look at watch and ask yourself how long will this movie take, not because of the horror but because of the boredom.

Dreamgirls (2006)

Eight Oscar nominations, must be a horrible movie year
2 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first part of the movie where we were introduced to the music industry and how it´s working is quiet nice. But after the trio split up and the story only develops mostly along Deena (and minor along Effie) the movie is losing me (what happens with Lorrell?). I am annoyed about the topic that Curtis is developing to the bad guy because I understand his argument from the financial point of view to say that´s important to do something for the mainstream and not to innovate the music (okay he is also betraying Effie with Deena, but this doesn´t developed any harsh feeling in me). Also the episode with Deena as black Cleopatra doesn´t make any sense and is completely stupid. I also don´t get why there is more less no sexism or racism involved which was still a hot topic during the 60s and 70s. Also sometimes the (later) sounds feels more like 90s and not like 70s. I even dislike the camera move going from an audition with only a view people to a full audience because this special move happened at least three times. Only the music and most of the acting is really nice.

The Wall-Crosser (2016 TV Movie)

Lovely story with nice characters (minor spoilers)
3 January 2020
The wired idea of a person going through a wall might be strength in the first place, but when one is arranging yourself with this though, it is really nice to see how this idea is developed. Beside doing things one would might do with this ability (like spying on your neighbour, the woman you are in love with, stealing stuff or annoying your boss). The ability is even expanded - with ideas I would never came up with- like chaining the policeman to the wall. At the end of the movie one asks yourself the question, if you had this power would you keep it or not. If you would like to know how the movie answers this question, please watch the warmly recommend movie.

An average movie
28 December 2019
The movie doesn´t show much tension. On the one hand one dones´t regret to see the film due to the nicely developed characters. On the other it doesn´t leave a hugh impact on you.

The twist at the end is horrible
24 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The idea of the movie and the acting is really nice, but that´s all. The main problem is that the results of the experiment are overdrawn. Why is nearly every relationship between the friends fractured and why are most of the couple somehow betraying each other? But this would also completely fine for me, when the characters try to overcome their problems. However, the magic of the moon made them forget what happened during the night and they live happily ever after... For me the movie would be a way better when everyone tries to deal with their problems and we could see how the succeed and met a few months later.

Gefangen: Der Fall K. (2018 TV Movie)

Good Movie
30 June 2019
I really enjoyed the movie. Jan Josef Liefers is doing a fantastic job by playing Wastl Kronbach who figured out the illegal business of his wife. This exposure is putting some powerful persons into a bad spot. Therefore, they decide with their network of corrupt figures to get him into a psychiatric facility. The movie underlines the influence of power to "powerless" persons. At some point when Wastls house got sold they might even ruin him mentally. But Wastle never stops fighting and after 10 years imprisoned he is finally free again. The only drawbacks of this movie are that is not completely clear what happens to Wastle and everybody else who has his finger in the pie afterwards. Also it would be nicer if one could have a closer look into the daily procedure of the psychiatric.

Get your time back
23 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
CJ and Sebastian trying to build a time machine for the science fair at school. The coolest part of the whole movie is that Michael J. Foxx is their teacher (with only one scene) and mention something, that one should not mess with time. Nevertheless, they figured out how they can go back in time but only one day back and for 10 min and they also learned that their actions have some consequences. After CJ´s brother Calvin gets killed by a cop and her mother mentioned at his funeral, that if she could turn back time she would protected her son the kids try to save the life of Calvin. Between the first use of the time machine and the funeral of her brother some days has passed and they have to be reminded that they have a time machine, I thought that the kids are so smart... After they modified the time machine to even go further back into the past, but with the same duration they tried to change the past. They are going back three time and try to change the outcome but only make it worse in my opinion. The movie has an open ending where CJ is going back in time on her own. In general, open endings can be really nice like for example in Inception that one can argue with your friends what your personal ending is but here for me it is clear that everything only even can get worse. The main aspects of the movie are the time travelling part and familiarly bond between the characters. But it is not clear where the focus is and also it is hard to put to foci in one 90 minutes' movie. Also is the time travelling concept not good descript and sometimes does not make any sense (If you turn the spin of an electron one ends up with an electron (with a different spin) and not with a positron).

Not worth watching...
23 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really do not get why most oft he reviewers like the movie. I think that there are a lot of gaps in the plot and I really disliked the movie. This review contains spoilers. I will roughly go chronically through the movie and let you know what I find wrong from my point of view. Adrián and Belén moved from Barcelona to Bogota because he got an offer as a conductor. For some reason they moved after eight months into the house (the eight months are only a guess, because Adrián mentioned that he is living for two months in the house and we also know that it is the end of his one-year contract). The widowed landlord, Emma, wants to go back to Berlin and leaves her dog there (why does someone leaving her dog behind?). But this is not really a problem, because Belén is into dogs and works from home as a shoe designer. Always when Belén is in the city she sees Adrián talking to Veronica and thinks that they have an affair (I do not why it looks like that they are talking to each other..., but maybe Belén had some bad experience with Adrián before, we will not know....). After Belén checked Adriáns cell phone he confirms the affair. Belén and Emma are meeting for the last time and they came up with the plan that Belén split up with Adrián via video and observes him from the safe room. The safe room has roughly 20 m² and no one every though that there is a hidden room? I cannot believe that. Also why is it not possible to communicate with the outside, shouldn´t that be important in case of a home invasion? Why is a key needed to enter/exit the room? How long planned Belén to stay, only for a short amount of time, because she is not bringing any kind of food (the cans she is eating are looking quiet old)? What does she want to see? For me it is clear that Adrián loves her because otherwise he would not ask if she wants to join him to go to Bogota and also some scenes are suggesting that. Due to the farewell video which is the starting scene of the movie I would never come up with the idea that Adrán planned to kill Belén and there was never a real evidence for that. After Adrián listen to the video he starts crying (here Belén want to leave the room and figured out that the key is missing, she only wants to see him cry after she left him (really that is all?)) and he got wasted at a bar. The waitress Fabiana picked the drunk Adrián up and drove him to her place where he is sleeping at her couch. Next evening, they meet again and start a romance. This is one of the few logical parts of the movie the sad Adrián want to have a distraction from the break up. But then Fabiana starts living in the house (why?) and got haunted by Belén which tried to communicate with the outside world (ether by beating the pipes or changing the water temperature. Nevertheless, Fabiana figured out that Belén is in the safe room, but she did not rescue her because she might think that Adrián drops her. After the policemen who hits the whole movie on Fabiana (why, are there not enough other girls around) showed her some photos of Adrián having an affair. She has a change of heart and wants to save Belén. Belén pretends to be dead, hits her with a bottle, close the room and leaves the house. Adrián enters the bedroom, finds a picture of him and Belén and the key to the safe room, but he is not aware that the room exist. Also we know that house will get sold. (Why is Belén trapping Fabiana in the safe room, wasn´t it Belén fault in the first place?). Overall I think that the movie has a lot of logical mistakes and most of the time the motivation of the characters is not clear. The only nice parts are the cutting and some acting moments.
