Moon (2009)
Yes, it's good Sci-Fi. Just don't fall asleep.
There are some interesting concepts in here - I especially liked the way the characters care about each other. The movie will definitely provide something to think about even after it ends.
Well, there were times when I wanted it to end prematurely. Yes, the silence and stillness contributes to the atmosphere a lot, but can very quickly get boring. Yes, the sterile setting helps you immerse, but also raises a lot of questions. Some questions don't need answers, but some do and there were times when I wondered just what is going on. Maybe I wasn't supposed to know the things I wanted?
I loved a few scenes with heart-touching moments. That's when you see the real beauty of it and start thinking about the cruel reality.
The movie won't disappoint, provided you are prepared to do some thinking - otherwise you'll be bored of the lack of action.
Kick-Ass (2010)
Confusingly watchable
This is a good (non-)superhero movie. It mixes action, drama and comedy in an interesting way. Extremely interesting.
Our hero isn't a hero, but he wants to be. So he becomes one, but not really. Or does he? Revolving around the point of being a hero the movie brings some confusion. It starts with a noble message, but loses it towards the end. First it wants to show itself in a realistic light, but because of that tone you are just more struck about the violence in the movie. At some points it's just cruel.
So it leans more and more on the superhero concept throughout the movie - good guys versus bad guys, extreme mindless action, it even features a painstaking cliffhanger.
Another thing that bothered me is the love interest. This isn't a spoiler as it seems that every single movie nowadays needs a lil' bit of love. OK, there's nothing wrong with being in love, but the way it develops in the film ... Let's just say it's a bit rash.
Despite writing all of the above the movie is still great to watch. It's no masterpiece, but it's an interesting mix of various ingredients (and other movies) - one minute you'll be excited about the action, the other you'll have something to think about, you'll have a few moments to form a smile and there might even be a few minutes where you'll be scared.
Saw VI (2009)
Closes and opens
The movie is in one word - great.
Definitely the viewer should be aware, that this movie isn't fit for everyone - you have to be familiar with gore violence in movies before. But the same goes for the prequels and since Saw is quite a well-known franchise, this should already be known.
On the other hand, explicit violence isn't what the movie is about. As well as the prequels, it caries an important message, it's just in violent context. But an observant viewer will see and be astonished by the way how everything fits. The movie does some explaining of the past, mostly with scenes from its predecessors, but you still have to be somewhat familiar with the story. And the story just gets clearer and clearer, with a lot of threads closing, but opening up new ones - the end is quite a cliffhanger. It's really amazing, how everything can be controlled by just one intelligent man and for such a long time. To some it may seem very fictitious, but it is really logical when you know all aspects of the story.
It's really quite hard to write about the movie. Yes, I'm a fan, I just love the franchise in general. But I believe that it can offer an unfamiliar viewer something of real value. One just needs to accept that violence is just the movie's way of showing the importance of the message.
So, I really recommend it, I really doubt you will regret seeing the movie, you just have to observe the story carefully.
"The choice is yours."
Extreme Movie (2008)
Watchable? Perhaps for teens.
First of, the movie is meant for teenagers (or people who feel like one). It is also true that it isn't a proper movie, but more like a collage of different sketches - that tend to be quite ridiculous - loosely connected with a teenage love story. Some sketches don't even fit in the main story, which is also by itself very loose.
But, the movie isn't meant to be serious and the viewer should keep that in mind, because only that way one can enjoy the movie.
So it wouldn't make much sense talking about the acting and the scenery and all that - it's there and it's OK. Not that I'd know much, but I've enjoyed.
Not much artistic value, but could serve a lot of fun.
