Have You Been Left Behind? (1999)
The movie watched in the book/movie "Left Behind" after the pastor has vanished
This video...it's really pretty funny that they made it. Basically, it's the video that the pastor in the story "Left Behind" creates and leaves in his office for years until he vanishes in the Rapture; it is then found by Bruce (the assistant pastor who was left behind because he didn't actually trust God, even though everyone else thought he was very devout)...the video talks about how they knew what was going to happen, how to prepare for the next steps of the end-times, and how to follow God's plan after all; it's not too late.
Basically, this is a good video (if agree with the Left Behind authors' interpretation of end-time prophesies) to keep on your shelf so that you can let people know what happened to you after it's happened, whether it's in 2 hours or 40 years (Concerning the hour, no man will know except for the Father).
I definitely recommend the book "Are we Living in the End Times?" to explore their viewpoint and hear their take on the prophecies that have been fulfilled already and indisputable and what will be happening in the future (they discuss each view on the Rapture/Tribulation/Second Coming, and the scriptural basis for each, but also why they feel strongly that the interpretation they have is right. It also explains which characters/events from their Left Behind series are entirely fictional and which are based on scripture, and gives an in-depth look at it. A good book to read whichever viewpoint you have as an overview to them all. If you find that you agree with their interpretation, then you may want to get this video to have around the house or church in preparation for the second coming and to explain what happened to those left behind.
Leslie Nielsen's Bad Golf Made Easier (1993)
If you golf, it's Hillarious
Seriously, if you golf, this movie is Hillarious!!
Leslie Nielson uses this video as a parody of regular golfing videos; basically if you DO actually golf then I reccomend this as a lighthearted and very amusing look at the sport, along with some new techniques (i.e. the "handwedge").
If you do not golf, or do not really know/follow the actual rules of it, then this movie really wouldn't make sense or be funny really.
If you golf, Get this. It's great!
Left Behind (2000)
I like it, but it's no where near the quality of the book (or the sequel)
Before seeing the movie, read the book. The movie alone leaves so much unsaid that is not explained and thus some transitions are really really strange and just seem bad. The next movie (Tribulation Force) actually is a LOT better than this movie.
The writers of the book did a wonderful job with the story, which tells a fictionalized account of the only part of scripture that has yet to be fulfilled. This movie takes the viewpoint of the Pre-tribulation Rapture of the church, but viewers/readers, please try to just watch it regardless of whether your viewpoint is pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib, or amillenniumism, or whether you have no clue what I'm talking about; these elements are not fundimental to salvation but issues that can be debated on each side with scriptural basis, so as far as that goes we'll just have to wait & see. It is an entertaining movie, though...like I said, try the book. You won't regret it.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Cute, funny
If you like Jim Carey, watch it! This movie takes the classic Dr. Seuss story (at times word for word), and adds a much longer story-line, looking back at WHY the Grinch hates Christmas so much, in a classic Jim Carey-esqe style. Very amusing once you get over the whole "I know this story already, and it was told a little differently" idea.
George of the Jungle (1997)
Very cute and funny in that whimsical cartoon sense
I think this movie was a great depiction of the original cartoon. The humor used in the film is very much like what would be found in cartoons, and is designed to be taken that way. I mean, any show where the narrator and the characters actually interact should not be treated/rated the same way as, say, a movie with dirty-humor. This really seems like it was designed both for children and for adults who remember the original cartoon, and I feel that it capticated these ideas very well and also captured the hearts of teens who secretly love cartoons but didn't want to be caught in a cartoon-ish movie theatre. I say that it was a great job all around, and that the acting very accurately fit the characters as well, in that cartoonish type way...a hard thing to do, but they pulled it off.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)
I Loved it!
I loved this movie when I was growing up!! People still talk about it in my school (now college) as far as how great it is; it's just so dumb in that fun, relaxing way. :)
If you're looking for anything with a realistic-at-all plot, don't watch this. But if you're bored & want something different, check out this one (or their 1st one which most people say is so much better)
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
Very misleading and theologically unsound
Let me first start out by saying that the music in this Rock Opera is GREAT, and the performers on this video have done an excellent job with what was given to them. However, there ARE many problems with the film.
To me as a Christian, I (and many, many people I know) feel that this movie is a VERY inaccurate depiction not only of Jesus Christ, but of the entire message that He proclaimed and His entire reason for being here!
For example, there is the song where the Lepers/sick ones all come to Jesus for healing and they overpower him, leading him to saying such things as "Too many of you" and "SAVE YOURSELVES!!" This is just shocking to hear, as these were some of the very people whom Jesus was ministering to and calling to eat with him and trust in him. He was very happy when people came to him, and at times had 5,000 with him, welcoming them all. Plus, scripting him to yell "Save yourselves" entirely goes against what Jesus always said...that man alone is incapable of saving Himself by works..."For by grace you have been saved through faith..."
Also, the end of a great song, "Poor Jerusalem" is very disapointing, as the end of it takes away from the entire show...he says "To conquer death you only have to die," when the real Jesus would have added "...with faith that I will save you from the death that you deserve because of your sins. But have faith in me and my Father (God) and you shall be saved, thus conquering death." THIS IS ESSENTIAL to understanding Jesus' message at all, and it is not there once.
Also, the film ends without showing that Jesus DID come back, resurrected 3 days later, showing Himself to over 3,000, proving that he is who He said he is, that his Word is true, and that he will be coming again.
There were a few really good songs, though, such as "Gesethamine," and "Simon Zealotes," but the entire show lacks the most important aspects of who Jesus Christ is. If you want to at least show a documentary on Him, leaving out the resurection and without showing whether or not you believe in what he says, at least SHOW ACCURATELY WHAT HE SAID. While this movie/show/soundtrack would otherwise be GREAT, it is such a gross inaccuracy with such lack of attention to the actual subject that it really does not even deserve a 1 except for musical composition (lyrics excluded) or location.
