Husband for Hire (2008 TV Movie)
7/10
Can schemes driven by money, control and greed, end in love?

First, rating this for what it is. If you don't like made for TV movies, or you're not one to say "let's not take ourselves so seriously and let's just have some fun moments in life", this isn't for you. We have some talent gathered on this film that seems to have some fun with a light-hearted script about a young, creatively bold woman that wants to choose her own path but has been ruled by the mighty dollar most of her life. With the passing of her mother, she is left with a big decision. Does she move forward down the path she was raised on and expected to follow or does she take control of her own life? At the start of the movie, everyone seems to be doing it for the money (characters and actors). While introducing the characters, some characters were a little over zealous and overplayed. But once the story is in motion, everyone starts to settle in. The actors disappeared into their characters and I got swept away in the transitions. The storyline has a nice build, creating an urgency that requires an all or nothing mentality. It's moments like this, when one's back is against the wall, that one decides who they really are. There are two clear camps here. A team driven by money that agrees in advance, on their roles in this crazy scheme to deceive the family. Another team, working individually to hold onto what they've always known, driven by money, control and greed. Stress is often an opportunity for growth and most of these characters face some challenges that force some self-reflection, but In the end, most allow that process to take place and they are the better for it. At the peak, each of the character's true characteristics break through the facade and reveal themselves. The veils fall off and you see who these characters really are. I enjoyed the ending, although, I felt there was a small miss in the bar scene. I would have liked a more inspirational scene for a man that finally chooses to follow his dream, after years of hiding it. Overall, I was pleasantly entertained which is the whole reason I love movies. Great for a bit of Saturday afternoon R&R.
