Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (2000)
Great Cartoon
It begins with a standard S&R mission and in the end Buzz is involved in an adventure, where the whole galaxy is at stake, with him and his friends being the only ones left to stop evil emperor Zurg, who is the excellent villain here. At no time is the movie ever boring, the story is never hold up at any point for too long and while the overall plot is predictable (Buzz will defeat Zurg and save the galaxy), in between it often takes unexpected turns. The robot and Zurgs men add a great deal of comedy and the attentive viewer will notice some wonderfull allusions "That's not a spacecraft - it's obviously a weatherballoon"
Firefly (2002)
enjoyable
So far I could only watch one episode (The Train-Job), from what I have seen it shows a version of the future that reminds me of the cartoons 'The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers' and 'Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs', the anime 'Cowboy Bebop' and the videogames 'Wing Commander' and especially 'Privateer'. The Firefly-future is not sterile with loads of techfeats like holograms, voiceinterfaces or automated doors but much more basic with firearms instead of beamweapons for example. On the negative side the cutting of the actionscenes in the episode I saw leaves much to be desired and the budget appears to be a bit small. On the positive side it is entertaining to watch, maybe not the most realistic version of the future, however if one watches TV to take a break from reality once in a while, this series may attract one.
