Shadowheart (2009)
Dreck
As I watched this terrible film, I was reminded of a bad High School drama project. The characters are one dimensional, the story line is something that any HS kid could come up with, very formulaic.
The score leaves nothing to the imagination. You have the soaring violins and happy sounds when we meet the dad and are expected to learn what a good man he is, as an example.
Bad guy goes from having rotten teeth in the beginning of the movie, and 15 years later has a set of pearly whites. I guess they invented cosmetic dentistry in the interim.
And even small things, like the guns are from the early 1800s, but are supposed to be late 1800s models.
Looking at the film, you realize there was some budget here, as the cinematography is fine, but the rest of the film is just dreck.
Dead Heist (2007)
Fun movie
I rate movies on how they perform compared to what they are supposed to be. For instance, Jason X is almost a 10, because it is bad and intended to mock the Friday the 13th movies. So that being said, this gets a solid 8. That is an 8 out of 10 for B Zombie movies.
SO when I saw the title and the description on my cable system, I had to watch. I said to my girlfriend, "I have to watch this. It has Zombies and bank robbery. Two great movie themes in one. What could be better?" Well, the titles started and I realized this was a Ghetto,Zombie Bank Heist movie. OMFG, it just got better. Kinda like Dead Presidents with Zombies.
When I saw this, I then said to my GF, "This could only get better if there was a spy or secret agent or something." Well, halfway into the movie we are introduced to a government agent character whose job it is to kill the zombies. PERFECT! So yeah, this is a B movie. But, as was said before by others, you can tell they tried. This is a fun romp. The acting is weak, but not terrible. Some of the characters are engaging, but not the ones that are intended to be.
The camera work is pretty good and the movie flows. It follows the formula for a zombie movie, but that is the point. This isn't avant garde, this is a zombie movie.
It is good for a laugh with some zombie loving friends.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
terrible, all around
What can I say? The movie is awful and one of only a handful I tell people to not watch. The plot never develops. The main character starts out as a bastard who is driven by greed. Through the whole film, he never moves from there.
Daniel Day Lewis is one of my favorite actors. I believe him to be truly gifted. But, I saw this character before. I saw this character in The Gangs of New York. Not a thing new here.
The dialog is painful and drawn out. The interaction among the characters is as uncomfortable and engaging as the conversation you have with the admitting nurse at your dentist.
I have yet to have anyone convince me this movie is nothing more than a scam pulled on the masses. If you say you do not like the film, you are looked at as unintellectual. If you say something along the lines of how moving and great the film is, you are admired for the enlightened person you are. Two words, brotha please.
Take 3 hours and pluck nose hairs. It will be time better spent and less painful.
