The Odd Couple (2015)
The jokes and the delivery as well as the writing seems forced.
this contains all the right elements to make a good show , including the hit play , the great actors and the writers. but it doesn't bode well for the series that the pilot was so forced . the jokes and the dialog is just too fast and cramped . the whole writing seems forced . it looks like that the no of jokes that can be included are more important than timing , delivery or in some cases , even the quality.
the plot is just all too clear and the larger story seems likely to be non existent . the places to explore from hereon seems all too predictable and all too " so what else is new ?"
i don't personally have a problem with laugh tracks ( most of my favorite comedy shows have had them) . but at least nowadays, they do not seem necessary . i mean if the audience is not getting your joke without the track telling them , then it probably isn't that great . the pairing of the perry and Lennon is good and has a lot of potential but seriously , they need to put their hearts in and not increase the no of jokes just for the sake of it.
Empire (2015)
this show is perfect blend of old school and new
this series seems to be largely based on the the lion in winter. here again, a king of an EMPIRE (aptly named , even though a bit on the nose), his wife / mother of his children and three sons (everyone along with their supporters and baggage) battle it out for the position of the heir to the throne . the scheming is perfect. the background of hip hop world is edgy. the sensational music is the bonus. a great family drama along with the complexities and the nature of the people involved makes it very easy to relate to . it has all the makings of a great show along with an amazing cast ... Terrence Howard gives an amazing and honest performance. Taraji just seems like the role was written for her specifically as she takes on the position of the strong woman with love for her children and a love hate scorned woman around her ex husband. there is a definite potential for gold .
Yudh (2014)
a promising effort
from the first 2-3 episodes , it looks like a bad imitation attempt (at least plot wise) of Boss which was a political thriller starring Kelsey grammar as lead. this besides having some similar elements lacks the grace and fails to convey the agony and self-confusion inherent with the fall of a once powerful guy and this debilitating disease. the editing is poorer if compared to the original but the veteran actors carry it off while the intriguing plot line is itself reason enough to watch. but definitely not up to the standards from all the big names like kashyap , menon, bacchan , sarika ,etc associated with it.... but i m definitely continuing at least till mid-season. hopefully it improves...
