War of 1812 (1999– )

First Historical Documentary-style movie I stayed awake through!
29 June 2003
I can't believe that I actually got a bit interested in this movie! I watched Canada: A People's History and I was not able to keep myself awake. But when I watched War of 1812, I actually watched it! I was also happy with the casting of this film, as Sir Isaac Brock was not depicted as a 60 year old (watch Canada: A People's History and you'll understand what I mean), and everyone was well-suited for their roles. Great Documentary-style of movie! ****1/2 out of *****

Lots of ACTION!

I'm surprised BHD didn't win for Best Action Sequence in the MTV Movie Awards. I mean, the whole movie is one whole action sequence! It was very realistic and very close to what I read in the book (which was taken from the stories of the soldiers in combat).

At the end, though, I still don't really understand why all of the Somalis are cheering for the American soldiers. They just killed over a thousand Somalis. At the end, it was a bit pro-American but, hey, that's Hollywood for you. Hollywood is, after all, in California.

Overall: 8/10-Great Movie!

Sappy but Sweet

What else could you expect from Jerry Bruckheimer? Fantastic, huge battle scenes. I must say I almost cried at the end. Unlike Black Hawk Down you actually get attached to the characters. We didn't need all of the romance and nice little peppy love speeches, but it wasn't too bad. But it's not true that all girls like romance. I disliked the romance, but more of the battle scenes. For any type it shouldn't be too bad!

Nice to watch with boyfriend/girlfriend.
