A Well-Acted, Beautifully Shot Letdown
27 August 2021
The concept is unique, but also doesn't make much sense. The lead character becomes psychotic seemingly out of nowhere, and decides to murder people just to "see" sounds. Could have used a little more logic from this one.

Evil Dead: A Brilliant Horror Remake
13 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I could go on and on about how amazing I thought Evil Dead was. But I'll let you guys experience most of it for yourselves. For now, I'll just go over what really stood out to me, and what I think could have been done better. All in my opinion, obviously.

The first thing that immediately stood out to me in this movie, was the amazing cinematography. The shots are beautifully thought out and crafted and it instantly draws you in. The opening scene alone has amazing shots, and has the perfect amount of "what the f**k" moments. Throughout the movie, the story flows nicely. There are a couple moments where I feel the characters make pretty stupid decisions, like sending a girl back into the cabin knowing there's a demon locked inside. It's pretty obvious what happens after that happens.

As for the gore...there's lots of bloody goodness! After the first 30 minutes or so, it's pretty much nonstop, and the chase final scene literally rains blood. So if blood makes you squeamish, this movie is definitely not for you. It all looks very nice though, every little bit of gore looks extremely lifelike and adds to the brilliance of this film.

I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just keep it short and sweet for now. But I do recommend this movie, even for people who aren't fans of the original. Unlike that, this remake isn't meant to be comical in the least bit. Just bloody violence from beginning to end! 8/10

Oz: Anything BUT Great & Powerful
20 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. So I was excited for this film for quite some time now. Back in October or so when I first saw the trailer, I instantly wanted to see it. It's too bad that it was such a letdown. Don't get me wrong, the cinematics are gorgeous. The colors pop and everything is sharp and beautiful. But then the characters speak. The writing in this film is laughable, even during scenes that are meant to be taken seriously. James Franco and Mila Kunis just didn't please me either. The only two that really stood out for me were Michelle Williams (Glinda) and Rachel Weisz (Evanora).

The film felt too rushed, especially in the beginning. When Oz and Theodora met, they literally fell in love within 5 minutes. When Oz "cheated" on her after the one hour they've known each other, that's when Theodora snaps. So basically the entire story of the wicked witch is based on a relationship that hadn't even lasted a day. To me, that can't be taken seriously.

Also, the only action scene that took place didn't even make sense. The poppy field that put all of the flying monkeys to sleep was directly in front of Emerald City, yet somehow the witches were shocked when this occurred. But this could just be me. So if you're wanting to see it in theaters, I say go. I'm only saying this for the cinematics though. Because this film looks gorgeous on the big screen. Other than that, I say wait to Redbox it.

Much better than expected!
7 January 2012
First of all, I just want to say that I went into the theater with very little expectations for this movie. My friend had been talking about how she wanted to see it since the trailers first started popping up. So, we ended up going last night to see this (opening night).

Let me just say that the theater was PACKED for this movie. We got to the theater 30 minutes before the start time and the line was already out the door. As for the movie itself, it started off slow in the beginning and slowly got more and more intense. The exorcism scenes were especially frightening and very well done in my opinion.

The movie is a mockumentary style movie, so it does feel real as some points. The ending is very intense and I was pleased. However, most of the theater booed when the credits started rolling. Of course, 75% of the theater was teenagers.

Overall, I give this film a 7 out of 10. It wasn't the best exorcism movie I've seen; but it also wasn't the worst. Worth the money.
