Messengers (2004)

Dark satire
5 June 2010
I think the whole point of this film is to play with truth and fiction. It's full of 'winks' to the audience and that's what makes it great. The entire opening scene is pure comedy. The only reason to be angry is if you didn't get that from the beginning but if you see the characters and what they do, it should be obvious. You're not in normal sci-fi territory here and of course, if that is what you need then you will be disappointed. However, this film is designed to mess with that expectation and replace it with something more human and poignant. This film isn't supposed to be about alien existence, it is about human communication (hence- 'Messengers'). At that, it's unlike anything I've seen.

The Castle (1997)

this one's going straight to the pool room!

this movie is one of those gems that will affect your use of language. The cast -even the smallest roles- are gifted and hilarious. It's unfortunate that movies like these get put into the rarely opened box of 'foreign comedies.' Audiences stateside who can't easily find this title are deprived of monumental one-liners and brilliant performances by everyone involved.

One worries about some 'intrepid' type attempting to re-make this film in the U.S. It's easy to imagine executives wanting to translate the magic to more known U.S. actors. But while the humor itself is hardly parochial, the cast displays such a tight sense of comic timing that duplication seems hard,if not impossible. 'The Office' comes to mind...

Propagandistic Drivel
16 September 2003
This sort of propagandistic drivel makes Leni Riefenstahl's work look objective. The actors are not at fault, but the writer and the producers of this kind of lowly work should be more honest when they are making 'campaign commercials.'

Thankfully this sort of shlock will end up in the dustbins of history.

Brilliant and underrated

A marvellous film with a story so incredible, it's hard to believe you've never heard of it before. An absolute must for all documentary and music types. The revelations are priceless and well...can't give it away. See it!
