Eight Below (2006)
Fun filled heartwarming story for all ages
Beautifully orchestrated spin off of the movie Antartica which was done in 1983. I thought the photography was great and the terrain that was shown for the locations is much like the Antarctic.
What made the movie extra special for me was the fact that I wintered over in the Antarctic in 1958 and was there when the Japanese came back to the Showa Base and found the 2 dogs that had survived the past 12 months. Very incredible and heartwarming story. There is a monument to the dog team in the form of statues at the base of the Tokyo Tower to honor them. I was fortunate to see it in 1992.
The dogs in Eight Below were so well trained and you form an immediate bond with them. The movie can be seen and enjoyed by all ages. A must have for my film library.
The Marksman (2005)
Fairly good plot.
It is to bad that the persons involved in the movie didn't do a little more research on some of the subjects. They could have used a real name for the aircraft carrier instead of the USS Okla. The straw that broke the camels back was the captain of the aircraft carrier wearing his hat that read USS Okla, SSN 798. The designation for an aircraft carrier in CV and a SSN is a nuclear submarine. That mistake should have been caught by someone in the production crew of the movie set. I find it hard to believe that all of the persons involved in the making of that movie were all that dumb. Wesley Snipes is a much better actor than that and he should be a little more selective as to what kind of role he accepts.
