Boku no kanojo wa saibôgu (2008)
A Love Time Can't Stop
My rating is not really a 10; it is actually 9.2. And I would agree if people say this movie is underrated. This is definitely one of the greatest tearjerkers from Japan. I cried out loud for over 15 minutes when I watched this movie. And I just can't say anything bad about it except it never showed what happened to Jirou Kitamura after the future girl came back for him. But the story was unlike what I have seen before. And for a comedy, the climax was actually kind of sad. That makes any fan of romance shed a tear.
The story tells about how the movie's resident geek, Jirou Kitamura found love in 2 girls(one is a cyborg) in 2 separate occasions. Which only emphasizes his average Joe persona in the film in the fact that he falls for a future girl who has quite an appetite for food, shoplifts and quite unused to everything, and to a heroic cyborg who is at the least, ROUGH ON HIM! But that says something; "In a relationship, it is not about finding the perfect partner in life, it's about finding the perfect kind of love that you can share with each other".
Just to back it up, Jirou's love for the future girl led him to spent all his money and time to create the cyborg girl. And eventually changing history that drives the future girl's heart to return to Jirou. The kind of love Jirou and the future girl share for each other was so strong, time can't keep them apart. I wonder if there would be an American version someday. Either way, this movie is great as it is. Keisuke's character, Jirou could very well be at the top 5 in my long list of "Greatest Lovers in Movie History". Why? When he had not created his cyborg girl yet, he ended up disabled in a wheelchair. But because he loved the future girl so much, he waited 65 years in order to see her again(in a sense). And because he did, his younger self lived his life happily and without regret.
This movie created a question for the public: "How long can a love that was created over a short period of time last?. And the movie had an answer for it: "FOREVER".
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
A rare kind of love not not expressed by humans
This movie really made me cry for quite a long time. I somehow believed that the greatest love of all is not expressed by humans. Hachi waited for his deceased master for more or less 9 years and never gave up even though professor Wilson was dead. How many people do you think can wait forever for someone special to them? I admit I'm incapable of doing that.
The story of how Hachi found Mr. Wilson may be unrealistic to some people since as if destiny brought them together, I wouldn't say anything negative about it or any of the flaws(if there is any) that critics may notice in this film. The way the master and his dog were finally reunited in heaven really warms even the coldest of hearts. In closing; to all the people reading this review, "Never forget those who you love so dearly; because they will never forget you".
Halloween II (2009)
These guys aren't that religious
This movie puts a new meaning to the phrase "What the heck is going on here?!". I mean if you watched the original series back in the 1980's, you will be confused as I am. First of all, what is with this mother agenda that's been Michael Myers' issue throughout the film? Don't tell me he is the new Norman Bates. And that costume of his; It looks just like Jason Voorhees' clothes back when he's fighting Freddy Krueger. And let's not forget his face; two words Michael: "SHAVE UP!" he looked like a beggar in a dark forest. It's a nightmare to think how his long beard and mustache fit in that rubber mask. Although his methods of murder is as spotless as ever; A true blue slasher.
At the middle of the film, I somehow noticed Laurie Strode/Angel Myers, is not as innocent as I liked her to be. She became a God hater didn't she? I mean just look at her bedroom, there is a poster of Charles Manson and a slogan that says "In Charley We Trust". My attraction to her just went down the toilet. I must admit though: "SHE DESERVES TO DIE!". I hate people who turn their backs on God. That's just wrong! The same goes to most of the characters involved Michael Myers' killing spree, they all deserve to die painfully slow. Don't worry Laurie darling, I'll come visit you in your mental hospital sometimes. But I won't ask you to marry me |o|.
Anyway, the story is something I can't put my finger into. It is a mixture of all the movies until Halloween H20. But Laurie is still a teenager and still blabbers the words S***, F*** and B**** all the time; bad girl, Bad Girl, BAD GIRL!.
P.S: I love Michael Myers' new knife; it's hardcore. Can I have one too? It's for my weapons collection.
Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)
Great movie but the games are better.
I liked this movie so much. I watch it every midnight. And yet, I can't put a perfect 10 on it. Let us start with the character's appearance; "they're a little off the weather". The graphics are not as good as you could expect from the technologies back then. Pretty much like the graphics of a PS2 without a video card, the environment is a little too dark to see the action clearly. And Leon Kennedy's face looks quite different from his Resident Evil 4 look. Has he gone a lot older or does his memory of Ada Wong stressing him out? He looks like he needs a wife, and fast. Same as through with Claire. Overall, the character design is above average but only just.
And then there's the dialogue; not quite a convincing conversation as you would like in a CG movie. But believe me; you can hear a lot of grunts, groans and screams in this movie but I don't really think it is essential to the situation. The mystery presented in this movie is good. a lot of twists and turns can get the adrenaline flowing, I know this because I'm an R.E fan myself. But the flashbacks that occurs in Claire's mind isn't helping much at all. Just for others to know, the monster in Claire's memory that got the same virus as Curtis Miller is Steve Burnside, Claire's 17 year old admirer that died in Raccoon City. You can see him in Resident Evil 2(game).
What really put this movie into my film closet is the action. It has that traditional Resident Evil flavor that kicks zombie and Curtis Miller butt. And pays tribute to the original "shoot them in the head" method.
They should create a sequel but this time, I hope it is a reference of the Resident Evil 5 story.
Enteng Kabisote 3: Okay ka fairy ko... The legend goes on and on and on (2006)
The Most Questionable Best Picture in my Opinion
Is this really the best picture? From what I've heard; the MMFF made it's grossing the basis of this film's victory. I don't mean to be rude but; YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! This movie was a spoof, A SPOOF! I don't understand it. I don't know about you guys but this is the first time I had witnessed a spoofed film became best picture. May I ask why is this best picture again? Seriously people; judging a film only by its grossing is a complete mistake. I mean look at "The Shawshank Redemption"; It didn't gross that much but it made to number 1 in this website. Enteng Kabisote's story is made up of several movies that already made up it's story. which means, they only got the idea by copying. Where is the originality in that? I don't know how this film became great to other people. Well to me, it comes with only 2 things: I am an ignorant fool who just doesn't like certain Philippine films for specific reasons; or some people just don't know what a great movie is made of. Love You!
Camp Rock (2008)
Camp Rock? What Rock?
Okay first of all, this movie's plot is so overdone. The whole "lonely girl in a camp trying to prove she has what it takes" is one of the most common stories in films these days. Secondly, what kind of rock is this film talking about? I am a die hard fan of rock music; and this film shows only few if not one genres of rock music. If this is camp rock, they should share different kinds of rock music from the Led Zeppelin type to Metalcore, Emo to Thrash, Nu metal to Screamers; not just pop rock. And did I just hear a hip-hop song in this movie? Because I swear I did. That was really awkward form the title itself. And the Jonas Brothers weren't at their full potential in this movie. I have watched their music videos and I would say that their music videos are a lot more worthy to be watched than this. Maybe the rock genre is like this because the film makers want this film to be watched by teens. Trust me; when those people get to college, they will know they are too old for it. Me, currently 17, and guys my age prefer to listen more to Slipknot, Disturbed, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Killswitch Engage and Bon Jovi than to the Jonas Brothers. And by the way; after their hit song "when you look me in the eyes", I had never heard from the band again.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008)
"Too Movie-like"
I'm gonna be neutral with this one(please don't hate me). From where I came, H.S.M. is loved by my female classmates back in my senior year. I wasn't a big fan of the show especially this third installment of the series. It's not like I hate it or anything, its just that the characters already been there, sang/danced/laughed/made fun of/loved/hated/went through all that in the previous films/series. It's like; you've seen one High School Musical, you've seen them all. One thing that shudders me is this movie is SO movie-like. What I meant was: the situations, chain of events are too fictional to be true. Come on people; in the real world, where can you find over 20 people who don't even know each other singing the same "original" songs with good coordination and dancing the same steps with good choreography inside a prom ball or inside a basketball court? I've seen it in cartoons; but why imitate? As for the story, its for fans to love, and for people like me to leave it be(My high school days are the worst of my life, and maybe best for others).
Doom (2005)
Could be Better
I'm really a big fan of the game. But I can't say this is a masterpiece, yet it is good enough to pump up the adrenaline inside of you. I got to admit: the weapons are cool and all that but there was so much suspense that they forgot to give it an excellent storyline and "man vs alien/demon/mutant" kind of battle; that would be really exciting. The looks of the Doom creatures are amazing, but their capabilities are very far from the game. I mean; in the game, those monsters can throw fire balls, stick to walls, and very agile. Whereas these movie ones can't even perform a cartwheel maneuver. And I never quite understand why Sarge(The Rock) has gone totally INSANE! I didn't really liked the ending too. There should be a lone surviving Hell Knight to continue the terror. It's a pity it only grossed over 50 million dollars. If they will make a sequel, I hope it could gross over 150 million. Oh well, the movie could have been better.
