The New Mutants (2020)
Avoid at all costs
I'd completely forgotten all about the bad press surrounding this 'film'....perhaps that's why they delayed it for 2 years, so we'd forget. Thought I'd give it a go, it completely ruined my night.
Not much more that I can say that hasn't already been said in these comments. Utterly horrible.
Not fit for a cinematic release. Would barely be passable as an extended episode of a cheap fantasy/sci-fi TV show.
Not a single redeeming factor. Everyone involved should be thoroughly ashamed.
Love, Death & Robots: Beyond the Aquila Rift (2019)
Stunning Animation
Firstly, this looked phenomenal. The problem with ultra realistic, computer generated humans is they can never get the mouths right, it's the one thing that always gives it away. There were times during this episode that I forgot I was even watching an animation.
Based on a short story that I've never read, yet I feel like I've seen a million times. Not necessarily the fault of the story, rather that this branch of sci-fi has been very well trodden (Matrix, Solaris...). So perhaps for me I've just seen it too many times and the impact was minimal.
Still...looked absolutely phenomenal

Good old 'Movies For Men'
Just like the previous comment, I also caught this on the said Sky TV channel.....at 6am in the morning??!! Only saw the last 20mins but agree, very adequate action film by the look of it. Over use of the slow-mo though, The Matrix has a lot to answer for in terms of visual style in action cinema across the world - think of 'Kung Fu Hustle' and the like....granted the Watchowski's borrowed it from John Woo in his 'Hard Boiled' hay-day....only to make it better and spew back out to the film making world. Again I agree, Russia's producing some good stuff, easily equal to some of the films from Hollywood critics are giving the thumbs up to.
