10 on Ten (2004)
The Master teaches how to see, listen, direct and live cinema
In this movie, Abbas Kiarostami gives the spectator an outstanding personal view of what is Cinema, how it can be simple and what it isn't or shouldn't be. This is a lesson for those who study cinema and for those who see cinema. An must see if One wants to understand more about movies, and more about the Abbas Kiarostami career. The movie is divided in a series of small episodes, small lessons if you prefer, that cover all the aspects of movie making, from the actors, to the accessories, going through sound and image, and ending with the role of the director and a vision of what is the actual state of cinema. Abbas Kiarostami, reflects, as he drives is four wheel drive, in the scenery of one of is movies, on the condition of cinema, and tryst to give young students material for a profound reflection on each one's work.
Far from Heaven (2002)
One of the best movies seen this year
I was skeptical in terms of seeing this movie at first. That's because I thought it would be a time waster. Then I convinced myself to see it, and it became the best surprise this year. I've said that I would go on and see only European movies this month, after I'd seen Gangs of New York, the big disillusion in recent times. But I didn't resist on going to see this one. And I've not seen such a perfect photography in ages. Composition was superb. I bet Tod Haynes is going to be bigger and bigger and bigger... What superb performance by Julianne Moore also. She reflected that heroin character so well. A Woman stronger than the world. And in this case her world was that little vicious town in Connecticut were everybody judge everybody for appearances.Excellent movie. Excellent colors. What a sense of rhythm and finally what a score. The entire movie is like a big play of art. The music is fabulous... The piano makes such a power impression that it is impossible to think of this movie without the music has is without the colors or the rhythm or the weather.
This is a movie to see in the big screen. Not on DVD. There are so little details in the movie that it deserves a second view. Or third, or fourth..
