The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)

I wanted to like it...
13 September 2009
I watched it, wanting to like it as I have been a fan of vampires and Anne Rice since 1993 (I was 10), probably around the same year that most of the tweens that adore Twilight because they have never read Anne Rice and have no idea what a quality vampire story is were born. I wanted to like it, but I didn't. The acting was horrible, the script was so full of clichés we've seen a million times in teen movies, the CW is headed towards failure. Since when is 4 million viewers for a episode a hit for a network? Ian Somerhalder went from the A-list quality show 'Lost' to this? Also, it's obvious the CW is just riding the bandwagon since as others have pointed, they changed the character of Elena to basically the same character as the lead girl in Twilight, they bought the name 'Vampire Diaries', but it was just a name, because what they did was tweak the story to make it more like Twilight since they knew that that was popular, and like gullible tweens will be gullible tweens who will follow any trend blindly since they don't know any better, it worked like a charm. I recommend anybody with a brain of any age (that means you tweens!) to read Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, and even watch the movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. And afterwards, you'll never like Twilight or this horrible show ever again...

Melrose Place (2009–2010)
10/10
Brilliant!
10 September 2009
Melrose Place was fantastic. It exceeded my expectations, I thought I would be disappointed like I was with 90210 and it blew me away, really smart to hire an Oscar winning director to direct the show. Even Ashlee Simpson, who is usually an AWFUL actress, was not as bad as I thought she was gonna be, but that was due to smart editing, they focused more on Stephanie Jacobson, who was brilliant in her role as was Thomas Calabro who was great with his subtle cyncism, Laura Leighton doing manipulative brilliantly while adding a touch of humour, Shaun Sipos was also great, as was Michael Rady, they were all on point and sharp with their acting, and this comes from an actor who has studied and performed in theatre my entire life (me). I'm VERY nitpicky when it comes to seeing acting mistakes, I can't even watch Ghost Whisperer because of the atrocity that is Jamie Kennedy, but Melrose? Just brilliant, brilliant acting, brilliant cinematography, music, 10 stars.

I love this movie!
10 August 2009
Some people are really arrogant sometimes when they review things, and I hate when people use the word "cheesy" because it's ridiculous to assume that what's "cool" at this moment in time was always cool, fads and fashions change, people call the 1990s wave hairstyle cheesy now, but you never called it cheesy when you were in 8th grade rocking that style. That makes you and many others who use the word "cheesy" just a bunch of hypocrites.

Same goes for this movie.

I loved this movie as a child, the acting is great, people always underestimate it cause they're not actors, but I am, and it's harder to portray comedic roles than it is for dramatic roles, and actors who play comedic roles are among the most underestimated actors in the entire world. Shelley Long was amazing in this, it had a heart warming message, I watched it today and still love it as much as I did when I was a child. They don't make movies like this anymore, films nowadays look exactly alike and use the same formulas.

The chemistry between Craig T. Nelson and Shelly Long was great, and the writing was so funny, I laughed so hard and I got a lot of the dirty jokes now as a 26 year old that I never did as a child. Just a heartwarming funny movie to relax with. Screw the arrogant critics! Not every film has to be a thought provoking life changing drama, if every movie was like that, I think we'd just all commit suicide! Some people are just unhappy in general, and some people need to lighten up! Comedies in general are underrated, especially those from the 80s and 90s, when those were the ones that provided the groundwork for today's comedies. This movie was great, a classic!

Just AWFUL TELEVISION, what you'd expect from ABC
4 August 2009
Defying Gravity was boring and the acting was awful, used too many clichés as someone previously stated, in addition, there was the cute but annoying Latin girl who threw in unrealistic Spanish in for no reason (look at tvtropes.org under "Gratuitous Foreign Language"), even if in the future Spanish becomes more of a major language (in NASA space travel), it's still completely ridiculous if the girl speaks English (almost) perfectly, and yet she's speaking random Spanish words to everyone else whose common language is obviously English, it's just complete Hollywood bullcrap and unrealistic, Spanish speakers if they speak English, they're not gonna speak in random Spanish to English-speakers who won't understand what they're saying. It's especially ridiculous considering that as an astronaut, failures in communication can mean the difference between life and death. Add to that that how is it possible that a woman can be pregnant without them knowing it? Before you head on a journey for six billion miles, you'd think they'd do at least a thorough health inspection on their astronauts. It was so stupid and just a few of the many things wrong with this show. Also those corny musical sequences, how about replacing those moments with actual good and interesting dialogue? Sorry, that's my critique.

Comedy Nirvana
26 July 2009
When I was a kid of 8, I always watched movies and television that i wasn't supposed to, and this was one of them.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time, and it has to be the funniest movie I have ever seen in my life, the acting is excellent, they Don't Make Comedies Like This Anymore these days (movies that are ACTUALLY funny and make you laugh without resorting to excrement or some type of vomit-inducing body fluid as in those retarded Judd Apatow movies starring unfunny non-actors like Seth Rogen, barf).

This movie is a classic with actors who can actually act, and deserve all the accolades.

Everybody Loves Raymond, Poor man's version
1 April 2009
I love Everybody Loves Raymond, so I thought I'd give this one a shot. I did, and I wish I didn't. It's just a rip off of Everybody Loves Raymond. The only exception is that the Italian is the wife instead of the husband, and the husband in this version is annoying as hell. And Leah Remini is a great actress, it's the husband, the actor who plays it is a terrible actor, hammy and over-dramatic in his portrayal. Not fun at all to watch, and boring and lame one-liners. Ray Romano has charisma, what's his name, wait let me go check, Kevin James, (see, if the public doesn't know his name, it means something), he has no charisma or likability factor. He's just annoying, he can't act and that translates into the character and the show. Just crap.

THE DUMMING DOWN OF America
23 March 2009
THE DUMMING DOWN OF America, yes I did spell dumb "dum" because that's what's happening to this country. The fact that so many people fell for such predictable trite and vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity's sake. And don't get me wrong, I'm by no means a conservative, Scary Movie is one of my most favorite movies, and I love comedies, but again, this movie was just ridiculous. Seth Rogan has to be the most overrated, most annoying new actor out there. What is his charm? Oh, big fat lovable fat guy? I think NOT. He's disgusting, and his big ego is a big factor in that. CHRIS FARLEY was lovable. This guy makes me want to barf. And seeing him have sex in this movie, even in character, I wanted to rip my eyes out, in fact, I turned away from the screen and shut my ears and I could not even believe how stupid the people were around me that they said that they actually enjoyed this stupid movie with weak dialogue, oversimplified stereotypes, and just overall ridiculousness. It wasn't the porn that bothered me, it was the poor acting and boring dialogue, I would've loved to have seen this same story done, but with actors that are not full of themselves or conceited or big douchebags like Seth Rogan, and with a better script and to not have it be full of comedy clichés and stereotypes. Just ridiculous, the fact that people actually like this movie and go as far as to say that Seth Rogan is a genius and that this was the best movie ever is a perfect example of why people think that America is getting dumber by the minute. And I am an American and I'll say that out loud, because it's true.

Vulgarity does not always equal edgy
21 March 2009
American television is going to hell. Quality writing is quality writing, but I feel like people think that if a show swears a lot and uses the f-word a lot, then it's "edgy" ooohh. First of all, no.

I like this show, I'm 3/4 into the first season, the only problem is that it's vulgar for the sake of being vulgar. I swear a LOT, and I mean a LOT, and it's usually accidental because that's just how swearing is, it comes out of our mouth when we least expect it and that way it's natural, but this show, everybody says the f-word and the s-word in EVERY sentence, many times twice up to three times a sentence. Nobody swears that much in real life. Nobody. And that's what drives me crazy. You know how you can tell when some people swear just to sound cool, and you can so tell when they're doing that because the swear word is overdone or oversaid where it just seems out of place and it just makes them look really lame? That's exactly what this show is like, they're trying too damn hard to be cool, when from the beginning, they were already cool, so in trying to be hard to be cool, that negates the show's coolness and they just look like that wannabe dork in high school who's trying too hard to be cool by swearing a lot, and that dork's name is Californication.

Swearing should be like an art, it should be used to punctuate something really funny or profound, because that's how we use it in real life, but in this show, when they use it in almost EVERY sentence, it just feels like it's trying to hard to be edgy, and it's not realistic at all. And I live in L.A., a lot of the stuff that happens in this show, I've seen happen in real life, but it's just too MUCH. It's trying TOO hard to be controversial, and trying TOO hard to be cool by using the f-word and the s-word a lot, but it's just looking really stupid in the end, and the dialogue just becomes vapid.

Also, Evan Handler is REALLY f-ing annoying, I agree with everybody else, and it's hard to believe that he is the best friend of this guy because he has no redeeming qualities. It's like, you want to care about the people on this show, but it's just like so much disgusting filth happens, I just feel like I want to take a shower after every episode.

I like the love story of David and his ex-wife or whatever, but I swear, it's so disgusting everything else that happens and everything else everybody else says, if there's a heart at the end of all the crap that happens, then people will watch, but it just feels like they're being outrageous and vulgar for the sake of being outrageous and vulgar Actually they're doing that because they think it's edgy. It's not.
