Copie conforme (2010)
Movie that can break your dreams
So it goes like this...My parents have quarreled as always. My boyfriend is on the other part of the world and I haven't seen him for a month (5 more to go). OK, so I'm sitting in my room and pitying myself as good as I can. And along came...no, not Polly. Along came 'Certified Copy'.
Couple of things to consider before watching the movie (I wish someone's told me those). If you're looking for a French romantic comedy in style of 'Jet Lag'(starring Binoche and Reno),don't count on this one. Get ready to struggle through the first 40 minutes of the movie. It may seem boring even for those who are interested in art. Why? 'Cause it's not about art as you'll discover later.
I have to give credit to Abbas Kiarostami for that plot twist that finally brought the story line to life. At the end you even start to appreciate that first part which seemed to be meaningless.
So it's not about art. The subject is trivial and eternal - relationship between husband and wife. The whole plot could be put in one line - here's what almost every couple will be after 15 years of marriage. And no matter what she does, no matter how hard she tries to recreate the past full of happy illusions, he still has to catch his train at 9 o'clock.
In the course of the movie you keep stumbling across happy newlyweds here and there. However, seeing the protagonists at the same time, you do realize that not many of those married couples will grow old together sweetly holding hands everywhere they go.
For many people everything written above is obvious 'cause they've already lived through this and have come to terms with the fact that there's no eternal love and the marriage ceremony is much more beautiful than the marriage itself. However, if you're in your early 20's and everyone around you keeps saying: 'Stop dreaming, this is real life, wake up!' But you remain stubborn and say: 'No, I can do better than that. I'll find my real love and I'll treat it with care'.
After watching this movie you may think: 'Well, it's time to admit everything they've told me is true'. And that's when you grow up.
The Social Network (2010)
In the end, it's all about connection and sharing
The movie, obviously, hit the spot. Facebook can't be any more popular than it is right now. OK, so here's what I liked about the movie.
1. It made me think. And maybe I should have stopped right there and there's no need for you to read any further. This reason alone is enough to watch the movie.
2. It's inspiring. As Mark Zuckerberg himself said in one of his interviews, he got hundreds of messages after the movie came out where people said they were inspired and wanted to start their own businesses or to create something new. And although he didn't seem very pleased with the movie, he still confirmed that was a good part about it. It inspired me too, well, not to start my own company or something but at least to try and write my first review for IMDb. And I've been thinking a long time about this. Now, what makes it inspiring? It's not only about the money a person can get if he/she is creative, talented and intelligent. (Besides, in the movie Mark Zuckerberg appears to be more interested in the idea and its development than the money he can get out of it). It's also about the dynamics of the movie, that makes it inspiring. Right from the start, there's this atmosphere of suspense and then we see the process and hear all those incomprehensible for many of us mathematical formulas and algorithms. And here is how the story line starts to unwind. And I followed it up to the last minute.
3. It raised my interest towards the creator of Facebook, towards his personality. I've never thought who stands behind this powerful social community. And you may ask why we should pay so much attention to this Zuckerberg? Well, 'cause we always pay attention to those people who influence the development of the society, who form the history. And we must admit the Internet and its biggest phenomena are now creating and changing our history, the world we're living in. And if Mark Zuckerberg was known in the United States through mass media he isn't well-known here, although we all use Facebook and its prototypes actively.
It seems I'm absolutely positive about the movie. Well, I'm sure you can find plenty of drawbacks in there, it all depends on how you see it and whether you're in the mood for that kind of movie. However, it's definitely worth watching because if you haven't seen it yet you'll definitely hear about it from one of your friends. In the end, it's all about connection and sharing.
