correction please!!
23 January 2007
On behalf of my friend I'd like to request to correct the data, please?

There's no actor/actress called Kena Watannbe, the correct name of the actor is KENJI WATANABE who plays MASAMUNE SANJO. It's very important to have correct information on your listings.

Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortunately I haven't watched the film yet so unable to comment about it.

It's an awful shame that you don't have correction/edit request functions/section which would improve the appearance and credibility. I'd like you to have a better proof reading system within your editorial section before you put the data base.

Hard to toranslate literature into a film
14 December 2003
Having read the novel in Japanese and watched the film, I'd like to correct a mistake of David Melville's comment. Lea(played by Charlotte Rampling)is NOT manipulating her young pupil/lover Prudence. Prudence is jealous and angry after discovering the past of Lea, then attempts the revenge against Lea's will. This kind of story is really hard to make into a film. In the novel, we learn Hugo's character, but in the film we hardly acknowledge anything, just a selfish horrible man who dumped his lover. As a result of poor characterisation of Hugo and unnessesary exploitation element, it became just another silly revenge flick.

Incidentally,I had a chance to ask a question to Ms Rampling in 2001. She commented that Zulawski was impossible as an actor, but agreed to take part in because of the friendship of the director.

Makavejev's sentimental journey
4 January 2003
I'm lucky to have a copy of this film ( my friend taped it for me when BBC broadcasted). It is probably the most accessible work of Makavejev because generally his films carry controversial political and sexual context. However, this doesn't include the latter so BBC 2 could transmit it Saturday evening primetime slot!! Personally it's one of the coolest things I saw on tv during '90s.It's a kind of essay of film making rather than documentary. He travels to Yugoslavia and charts the change of the society which Parallels to his own life. It's an affectionate and charming little gem with lovely music. I hope other people will have chance to see this film.

One of the best rite of passage films in '80s
4 January 2003
Finally I had a chance to see this fantastic film recently which is better than my expectation. Simply it's an awful shame that not many people in the world haven't seen this film. I really love the scene that drunken father comes home and all the boys have to sit for a daily meeting. I'd love to see this film again.

French bred Algerian teenager's harrowing journey of self search
1 January 2003
I saw Morel's "A Toute Vitesse"(96) and glad to have a chance to see this film during London Film Festival 2002. Morel's approach to tackle social and moral issues is straight forward and realistic. Samy is sent away to Algeria in order to escape French jail. He's staying with his grandfather's, but he can't speak Arabic and he is experiencing a fish out of water situation. As the film progress we slowly learn about his cousins and uneasy background of the country itself. If you prefer to watch something makes you think about life and human condition you'll find this film is worth watching.

Very Imaginative and original short gem
29 December 2002
I only saw this film once in '91 in Tokyo and cannot remember all the details, but it's one of the most original short films I've seen. It consists of two different stories, one is dwarf rabbis coming out from a bag and I'm afraid I cannot remember the other one at the moment. Rochant has such a bizarre sense of humour and I hope I'll have another chance to watch this film again.
