Joan of Arc (1999)
Bad depiction of a great person
Since I read Mark Twain's "Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc", I have deep reverence for Joan. I don't know what these people were trying to do when they made this movie. It is historically incorrect and full of profane remarks. As far as my knowledge is concerned, Joan never doubted about her cause, neither when she was leading the army nor in the court. Her rock solid confidence and high morals were the attributes that made other people believe in her leadership. She was patriotism and courage embodied.
I wish if somebody take the historical facts and make the movie as such without inducing any nonsense.
Unbreakable (2000)
super man movie closer to reality
As far as the movie is concerned, it is no doubt a commendable effort in all aspects. We can say that this is another superhuman movie but what makes it different from others is its realistic touch. Samuel L. Jackson did an incredibly good job.
I also would like to comment on Elijah's role. He is suffering from a rare bone disease but at the same time he is quite brilliant. I think his mother is the biggest culprit in the whole story. She ruined her child's life by giving him nothing else to read other than comics. People are not born to do good or evil things. People get different abilities and powers that they can utilize in a good or bad way. Elijah could have excelled in scholarly discipline with the God gifted brilliant mind he had but his mother and to some extent surroundings induced in him inferiority complex and he turned into a criminal. He just read comics and started thinking about everything in terms of comic characters.
Anyway, the movie was really a good drama.
Deterrence (1999)
Horrible
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It seems as if some high school agile kid made this movie. The president of the United States has been depicted as extremely irresponsible person. He was acting like a monkey with a scalpel in his hand. Direction and acting are flimsy. It could have been a very good movie if it were made by somewhat educated people with a good plot etc. The president was shown giving direct orders to launch a nuclear strike on Baghdad without consulting his counsels when there was no direct threat to the security of USA. Hitler would have acted better in such a situation.
Les Misérables (1998)
Great Movie
This is one of the best movies I have seen so far. Some of the people gave negative comments because the actual book was not fully covered. If you keep the book aside for a while and analyze this movie, it is awesome in each and every aspect.
Nuremberg (2000)
Good Movie but did not convey historical facts completely
Nuremberg is a good movie, acting, direction, screenplay are quite impressive but it doesn't accurately convey what actually happened at Nuremberg trials. the people who quoted about this movie as factual and exact are not completely right. although the overall event was depicted as such but the courtroom arguments were distorted to change their impact and meanings. This is not the first time such thing happened. Most of the Hollywood movies based on world war II and related events sway away from the facts. In this movie, the focus should be on the courtroom proceedings and both prosecution and defense strategies and arguments should have been depicted. it was not so. the defense case was completely ignored. especially some of the arguments between Jackson and Goering were not depicted accurately. Actually, Jackson was not able to catch Goering through his advocacy. he was frequently outwitted by Goering's presence of mind.
