The Hound of the Baskervilles (2002)
Good film, what can I say
I liked this film. It was a good adaptation and there was a lot of effort put into it.
Roxburgh's interpretation of Holmes is closer to the actual book, his air of superiority is as Holmesian as you can get, yes he does get shot up, but Holmes actually DID this in the books, so sorry if that offends you, but hey. As Ian Mckellen once said "It's in the book"
Iand Hart's Watson was different, though I thoroughly loved his performance, dragged a little at times but the pace is well kept throughout most of the time.
It's definitely worth viewing if you want to see a good Holmes adaptation.
The Cookie Thief (1999)
Cheered me up
I suppose in a time when my country has suffered a great loss (200 victims and counting). This fine specimen of a short film is what I needed. Based on a poem by Valerie Cox. The story of the silent cookie munching battle between Jack Davenport and Honor Fraser is so lighthearted and innocent that you just cannot help smiling. It shows us how life is made of simple things and how sometimes the British have different ways of dealing with rudeness, because they're too polite to shake anyone off (and I mean that in the nicest possible way). Kudos goes to the short list of people that created this little piece of art.
