Blue Bloods: The New Normal (2021)
Blue Bloods going woke
Blue Bloods used to be one of the very few shows that reflected a "conservative" outlook.
But of course, that couldn't be allowed to continue.
Now its woeful embarrassing woke cringe.
So Sad.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
What is the goal here?
This in not a Star Trek show
This is a deconstruction of Star Trek show.
Up until this point Starfleet was a moral and virtuous group. Something to aspire to, a world in which poverty and war had been eliminated.
Now 4 Bolsheviks are recruited as writers, and they create a world where Starfleet is evil, uncaring and full of cursing harridans.
Its clear money has been spent and effort expended but for what? Something that, especially after Star Trek Discovery, kills any last remaining sparkle that this universe might contain. It certainly isn't Star Trek as the vast majority of fans might recognise.
Why? What is the goal here? You're certainly going to lose money, but kill a franchise for good measure?
Submission (2019)
Terrible Film
Badly written, badly acted, badly shot.
An grossly inferior knock off of Warrior.
Save yourself 2 hours - Skip this.
The Good Fight (2017)
Hugely enjoyable - and don't sweat the Trump Stuff..
Firstly the show.
Its fun. Well written, occasionally laugh out loud funny. And its exquisitely put together like a fine meal, albeit a salad rather than a steak.
And yes, the show has anti-Trump sentiment. But here's the thing, its done in such a stupid way, I'm not even sure that the show isn't trolling Resisters.
And more importantly, with his explicit rendition of the legal profession being staffed by chances playing silly games, its more representative of Mueller's clown show investigation than anything to do with Trump.
Hurricane (2018)
Terrible Script
There's definitely a story worth telling here, but the people behind this film have made an almighty hash of it.
The script is awful, utterly awful - littered with modern euphemisms and liberally injected with clanking scenes of #metoo nonsense.
The characters are paper thin, and mostly unlikable.
The effects are poor and the choreography of the air battles is disjointed.
If you want a good film about the Battle of Britain, go watch the 1969 film "Battle of Britain"
Altered Carbon (2018)
Fantastic adaptation of a challenging but brilliant book
Ok. Cards on the table. II love the Takeshi Kovacs books, and for a long time wanted to see a movie/TV adaptation.
However, given the breathtaking imagination of the books and the depth of the themes it explores, I knew there was a serious Chance of a howler.
I need not have worried. This series is fantastic. It deserves enormous credit for staying true to the source material while handling its complex plot and ambiguous hero.
Great acting, set design and SFX really work to immerse you in its locale.
It also deserved credit for asking some deep questions about the nature of life, the soul and humanity without beating you over the head with portentous plotting or dialogue.
Yes there are some tweaks to the books original narrative, but it makes the story more accessible.
Overall highly recommended.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Misfire
I'm impressed with the reviews more than the film. Thor 3 promised so much and yet delivered so little.
How so many people can read humour and engagement in something that I found was flat and disappointing...
Takes all folks I suppose.
