Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)
My fist hungers for justice!
Dreamwork's Kung Fu Panda 2 is one of the highly anticipated movies of 2011, and once again the action-packed animated flick kicked the box office by storm. It raked $54 million in it's first week and is expected to perform better in the coming days because of it's awesomazing package.
The story follows Po's adventure as he and the furious five defended China against the evil peacock, Shen; while discovering Po's past on how he ended up to be a Goose's son.
The flick did not fail to deliver what their fans expect. The storyline was as witty as(or even better than) the first one, the direction was good matched with the movie's mind-blowing visuals.
The movie ended up giving room for another sequel and rumor has it that there will be three more installments.
For me, it's really something to look forward to. I just hope that just like the Toy Story franchise, the movie will get better as it reaches it's final offering.
The second installment definitely deserves your watch, so if you really want a good laugh, you better check it out yourself.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
The Saddest Animated Movie I've ever seen
Having watched several Studio Ghibli movies like Spirited Away and Howl's moving castle, I thought that this film would be another out of this world magical story too...
I found the title intriguing so I decided to watch it.
I was struck as soon as the story began especially when the boy mentioned about the year when he died.
Well I was really wrong about my expectations for the flick isn't fun filled after all.
However I have to commend the film's effectiveness...
Cos it was able to connect to its viewers and move its audience...
I was honestly teary eyed when the film neared to its end...
I guess this is the most unique Ghibli Movie.
A very sad yet effective story...
Omohide poro poro (1991)
Awesome Flashback Story
Hayao Miyazaki is indeed a genius when it comes to making animated movies.
However, his fellow director from Studio Ghibli, Isao Takahata is also commendable.
Grave of the fireflies is Takahata's first movie that I was able to watch.
And I was so amazed how the story was told considering that it was presented as an animated feature.
This flick proves again that Director Takahata is unpredictable in his way of delivering a story.
Only Yesterday is a film that makes you feel wrong for labeling flashback movies as nothing but dull and boring.
I simply love how Taeko's story was told.
Definitely, It is another splendid masterpiece by Director Takahata...
A job well done indeed...
Villa Estrella (2009)
Something's Wrong
Well, I am not really fond of watching Filipino movies but since its a movie from Star Cinema, I decided to check the movie.
The movie has a decent plot but I do not consider it original for it was somehow patterned to the Skeleton Key (a Jennifer Hudson starred Horror/ Thriller flick on 2005).
For me, the movie was a bit disappointing.
It could have been better if they made it a bit more simpler and convincing.
At first, I liked Maja Salvador's acting for she was effective on her portrayal, but when she appeared as monster like sea creature with super powers like a gruesome slimy Alien, the movie began to suck.
Like come on, its acceptable to see Maja as a ghost hunting on the pool but I wonder why she has to have that power that's so unbelievable.
I believe the Director did it for he wanted to make a good twist and to create more thrills.
But I guess he failed and made the movie a bit ridiculous.
5 out of 10 for me..
Baler (2008)
Splendid
One of the best Filipino movies for me, I am from Maria Aurora a nearby town from Baler and i never known how great the story of the Baler Siege is until i watched the movie.
I'm surprised to know that the love story of Celso and Feliza really did exist as what is mentioned on the last part of the movie.
The direction is good, while the cinematography was superb.
Though a lot of people keep on saying that there are character mismatches in the film, the actors and actresses particularly the lead characters really did a great job.
Anne Curtis was beautiful and really effective in her portrayal. She is really commendable Well for me, the movie DEFINITELY deserves its wins especially when you are gonna compare it to some other festival entries.
Facing the Giants (2006)
Inspiring
A very inspiring movie.
If you are looking for movies that is meaningful and free from moral filth, this is a very good movie that you'll surely enjoy.
The movie is great for what it is.
But it isn't for movie goers who want to see some high flying actions, great special effects, naughty scenes, and nudity for I believe that for some those stuffs that I've mentioned are their criteria for a good movie.
This is a family movie rich with values.
Whether you like church related flicks or not, I still encourage you to check this out...
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did...
Fireproof (2008)
Full of Love
I just love this movie, it may not be the kind of movie that movie goers will crave for, but it is a movie definitely worth viewing.
This movie is full of values. It tells about patience, perseverance, respect, humility, faith and God's love.
And I must admit, this movie made me cry for several times.
It has a great story. And I believe if you really are a Christian you will highly appreciate this movie...
Too bad value filled films like this isn't much appreciated by most of movie goers and they much prefer movies full of gore, nudity and profanity...
I'd highly recommend this movie especially to married couples, you better check it out yourself....Have a great day
Despicable Me (2010)
Among the Strongest 2010 Animated Features
Last Saturday, I managed to watch Despicable Me. Yeah I know that it isn't new for it was shown last year.
I still decided to write a short review of it though I KNOW it's already late.
Well it really moved me and I just wanna share some of my thoughts about it.
I believe Despicable Me is among the best animated features of 2010. Yeah I know Toy Story 3 is great but this film definitely deserves a watch too.
But before mentioning the good sides of the movie. Here's some weak areas from my observation.
The story has some inconsistencies. Like when the kids were showed in their first sleep that they prayed first before sleeping but they were never showed praying again in the following sleep scenes.
Vector was also a techy villain so I just can't figure out how he came up with the not-so-cool octopus gun invention, (I've read though that it was done purposely to come up with a scene close to a Jules Verne's novel).
The presence of the minions was also kinda questionable for it isn't a monster or alien movie.
However, considering the fact that it is a fun-filled animated feature, all those minimal errs are kinda excusable...hehe Now here are the strong points.
I love this film for IT IS FULL OF LOVE.
I love the characters in the movie too especially the very endearing Agnes. (She also reminds me of the lil girl from Monsters Inc.) The movie did not fail to show the right emotions. It was very accurate and very witty.
In addition, the cinematography was nice, the sounds was just and the direction was splendid.
One of the most remarkable scenes for me was the roller coaster ride which proves that great 3D rendering was done in the film. It kinda made me feel like I was in the ride too.
I also love how the movie indirectly pointed out that we have let go of the bitterness in the past.
This movie is definitely a good reminder that no matter how bad our past is we can still live a good life if we choose to.
So as I end, I encourage everyone to watch the film if you haven't watch it yet.
Very cute, funny and lovable. 8 out of 10 for me...
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Superb
Today I managed to watch Toy Story 3, yeah I know it's a bit late now for it was shown many months ago but since my office mate just gave me a copy I decided to watch it.
Toy Story never failed to amaze me... I love Toy Story from the very beginning, and again Disney showcased their cleverness with their latest Toy Story offering.
Wow, I really am in awe till now and I just can't get over how splendid the movie was. The movie has a rich storyline. I love how they put depth on the story this time and tackled the issue of moving on and maturity. Like Andy, indeed we will not be forever young but our memories of our good old days are stuffs that we can forever treasure. For me, the third Story is the best and strongest among the three...
Plus Totoro was there, (too bad he didn't even talk...) it really made me happy to see Totoro in a non-Ghibli movie.
I'm really glad I did watch this awesome flick... Perfect for me... Toy Story is indeed a movie worth watching as always...
