Civil War (2024)
Good movie, but I had some issues.
I had high hopes for this movie going in, but apparently I need to stop listening to some of these critics out there because they wouldn't know a good movie if it came up and bit them. At times this movie was just slow. It seemed like it took forever for them to get from one location to the next. Just riding down some backwoods country road listening to some god awful music. Which reminds me, the music score was TERRIBLE. The songs that were used were grating to listen to. Who thought it would be ok to break into a Jazz song during a firefight. Who came up with these songs?!? I'm not sure who some of the artist were, but my ears were bleeding from listening to some of them. AND the background score, where they used some off the wall sounds, apparently was made by some high school kid on a electronic digitizer or something. All he was playing was screeching, eerie sounds. This movie is definitely a one time watch and done. No rewatching here.
Madame Web (2024)
Rather watch paint dry...
When I heard that Dakota Johnson would be starring in this, I knew right away that it would be utter trash. I've seen belly button lint with more acting skills than she's got. The only reason she made it into the Hollywood clique is because of her parents. Pure nepotism. She's terrible as an actress. It had a lot going for it, but I just can't get past the actress. Maybe if they made Superhero movies that isn't so female heavy and threw a few male actors in there. Even Black Widow had David Harbor in it that livened it up a lot. This movie just had one actor that was her co worker, but he had very little screen time where as the other three women made up the complete cast for this one. Add a little variety please. The screenplay for this is also terrible. The lines ...coupled with the acting, just shreds this movie to pieces.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Utterly trash.
I had seen so many reviews and stories that list this movie as being fantastic. I gotta say, I just don't see it. Maybe the one's that reviewed this with 10 stars are just as insane as the movie is. I tried to give it a chance, but I just couldn't give this movie a good review. It was sooo terrible. I looked up the box office and the budget was 15 million and the world wide box office take was 20 million, so I'm not even sure if this movie made any money. I know money doesn't define how great a movie is, but box office receipts are kind of an indication that it was a movie worth watching. Don't waste your time. I'll never get those two hours of my life back and that's the real tragedy here.
The Killer (2023)
So slow of a movie.
Not your typical action movie. It has its moments and battles, but this movie turned out to be so slow. I kept hoping...wishing it would get better, but before you knew it, the credits were rolling. And at the ending, you sit back and say to yourself, "What? I've just sat through a two hour movie and wonder where the time went. I liked Michael Fassbender, especially in this type of role, but this movie was just so lacking in any substance or action. The movie probably should have been titled "The Killer, who narrates the entire movie with his take on the Tao of the universe". Yeah, another Neflix bomb, in my opinion.
'71 (2014)
Could have been so much more.
This was a decent movie, but it could have been so much more. The issues I have with it was that some of the scenes took forever to shoot. The foot chase after the death of his fellow soldier just went on forever. The shot of him after the bombing of the pub...where the main character is walking down the street was just too long. After he was counseled by his superior and he walked down the hallway...it was an eternity watching him walk this shot. I mean...come on! Even the bus ride at the end, was just air time filler. The director could have told much more of a story if he would have just quit shooting some of the scenes earlier instead of dragging it out. This movie would have been 1 hour long if it wasn't for all the long timed scenes.
Outlander (2014)
Well...like a sprinter in a long distance race...
After seeing many of the reviews for this series and them all being very high in ratings, I decided to give this series a go and I wasn't disappointed...for the first few seasons. Then it was like the writers ran out of ideas. Don't get me wrong, there is a plot, somewhat. It was a good story up until the Jamaica season and then its like the writers just went to the bathroom and while crapping out their innards, they decided to crap out some storylines. There are so many plot holes and super coincidences in this story now that you just have to roll your eyes and turn off the series. The pair start out in Scotland and set sail for Jamaica to find Jamie's kidnapped newphew and enroute, Claire is transported across to a British ship of the line. That ship sets sail with no hopes of Jamie's little sloop to catch up to the galleon but lo and behold, after hundreds of miles and Claire jumping ship, they miraculously find themselves back together. Ugh. And don't get me started on Ghellis and John's sudden arrival. Double Ugh. And then they both run into Jamie's still kidnapped nephew for a triple reunion. Triple ugh! I'm so glad we made it through season 3. I'm going to hope for the best and watch season 4. Maybe they fired the screenwriters and the story will improve...or else I'm stopping at this one. I have other series I'm wanting to try out and this drivel is starting to wear out quick.
Turning Red (2022)
Apparently, Pixar's ran out of ideas...
This movie, while it may be cute for tweens (the story is just not something a younger kid should watch. They wouldn't understand some of it), was just terrible in story telling or plot. Surely, Pixar can come up with a better storyline than this drivel. I rated it a 4 because the animation is on par with Pixar, but the plot just falls flat. There are a billion other stories or fables or myths...that could have been drawn upon for better stories, but this...this is just a waste of time. Lets face it, anything that Disney or Pixar produces or makes these days is just not worth it.
Loki (2021)
Maybe I'm expecting too much...
So far, LOKI has been lackluster. The writing is dry, the plot is ludicrous, and the acting is horrendous. I usually like the character Loki in the MCU movies, but his own show...yeah, that was a mistake. There are so many other characters that they could have introduced and did series on, but Loki? Nah, that was a wast of film...er...digital media. Hopefully, this turns out to be like Wandavision. The first 2-3 episodes on Wandavision were ridiculous...then it started getting good. However, I'm into the 3rd show, and this Bisha Ali (screenwriter), needs to stick with her day job (it lists comedian, I just hope she's funny, because the writing is atrocious). My toddler son could have done a better job with crayons and construction paper. If the series picks up, I'll revisit my review and edit. But for now, it scores low because it is... And as another reviewer said, you can't go by these reviews on here because they're bought and paid for, evidentially. Maybe they told the Disney Employees at the parks that they'll give them a bonus if they liked the series...I dunno.
WandaVision (2021)
What is this cr@p?!?!
If I wanted to watch old black and white comedy shoes, I'd watch "I Love Lucy". At least that show was funny. What's the purpose of having a MCU show with no action or excitement? I mean really, this is just an old burn out sitcom with a little flair. Bring on the fire and brimstone that other MCU movies and shows had! At least Arrow, Flash, and the DC Universe had action. I'm mad because this show woke me up and I needed sleep. And as for those saying "Why rate the whole series and not the episodes", it's because I couldn't make it past the first two episodes. I think I'm going to drop my Disney+ and just buy into it when the Mandalorian comes out with new seasons.
Cosmos (2019)
Nothing to write home about.
Slow movie, cheesy acting, ending took forever to watch. Musical score was a bit much. Plot holes: They had a a complete "computer and astronomy lab" set up in their car but at the end they ran their batteries down? I suppose they've never heard of power inverters for cars. $19.99 at Walmart guys. Just a tip.
The Lumber Baron (2019)
Wasn't impressed.
I was interested in watching this because turn of the century historical pieces are one of my favorite genre's. However, after getting into the movie a little bit, I was rolling my eyes at some of the conversations and found the screen writing to be horrible. The acting was sub par...some were better than others, however it was just a horrible screenplay with some horrible actors. I did notice the costumes and other settings to be interesting but this alone doesn't make a good entertaining film. I don't recommend it unless there is nothing else to watch, which in today's world, is impossible.
Lost in Space (2018)
Acting and script were atrocious
Where do they get these screen writers from? I started watching this and kept thinking I'd give it a few more minutes...and one more episode, but after halfway through the 3rd episode, I'm done. Ugh, it was horrible. Some of the concepts were unique, but others were ludicrous. The producers would be better justified if they found some talented science fiction authors from some book review websites and employ them as screen writers. I can appreciate that Netflix tried to kickstart a new Science Fiction series, but this wasn't a successful attempt, in my opinion. I've never written a screen play, but after seeing this garbage, I think I'll move to Hollywood and give it a shot. Apparently anyone can, nowadays.
The 5th Wave (2016)
About the worst movie I've seen in a long time.
"Falling Skies" meet "Edge of Tomorrow" and they have an offspring called "The 5th Wave" but with an asinine plot. The movie had some decent actors and lead actress, but it just couldn't save it from being a terrible movie. It's almost like they took the storyline from a SciFi fanboy and turned it into a movie. I was expecting a whole lot more. The plot was so jumbled that it was hard to tell what was going on half the time. Please do us a huge favor and kill any sequels to this storyline. I think the only thing I regret more than watching this movie is the lost time that I'll never see again. Do yourself a favor and watch another movie...ANY other movie before wasting your time on this.
