Big Tingz Expected From All Concerned

If anyone wants a template on how to do a decent short film, use this.

It's fantastic.

This short film defies being only 12 minutes long and packs a mighty punch. It's furiously paced, right from the start, and has a funky soundtrack to keep the energy buzzing along. It looks great too, with cool camera angles and even a bit of slow motion thrown in. But what really makes it, what everyday viewers will like, are the characters.

And what characters there are! The two young kids, Nathan and Mo work so well together. They're funny, and they're likable. You can't wait to see them get into trouble, and then get out of trouble. Thankfully, they've got something to work against in the form of Kevin, an outrageous psychotic drug dealer, who curiously is still very funny and likable (despite the Travis Bickle haircut!).

This is a great short film because it's made from the right recipe: brilliant story, brilliant characters and brilliant acting. Good job.

Good but not perfect

Short films are usually simple things with a twist in the tale. Not this. It managed to tell a much bigger story, perhaps worthy of a feature.

It was well directed, both in terms of the acting and how it looked. But it didn't capitalise on the chance to leave the audience satisfied, and more importantly, changed.

Instead, it went for the non cliché ending, whereby a formerly mixed up man, became, a currently mixed up man. Accurate? Perhaps. Satisfying? Definitely not! Overall, it's one of the better short films I've seen, and it certainly hints at some kind of talent for the filmmaker.
