Dabangg (2010)
6/10
The Bang.
10 September 2010
Now it's not written in the Holy rule books of Filmography that a movie has to be thought provoking, emotional, influential, coherent and real; to be regarded as respectable. Dabangg is a joke. A joke in the form of a movie. And it's the finest of jokes i've ever seen happening. And sometimes movies don't need the fine touch of a commendable story or a cinematic sequence, if the dramatization and build of the 'protagonist' is as impeccable as in Dabangg. The Jokey names in Dabangg make you whicker more than often, but when it comes to the dialogues and one-liners, you can't help but literally laugh your ass out. I bet even Scorsesse or Tarantino would enjoy such a film, if not tend to laugh their ass out. The background music is like one of those cowboy gunfight tracks, and it combines brilliantly with Salman's patronizing attitude. On the whole , Dabangg owns a new style, and i won't be surprised if it gives rise to a whole new genre , something like film-noir. I'd like to remind you again , the best joke in the world is not about two hunters in a jungle, it's Dabangg - The Bang.

Peepli [Live] (2010)
8/10
Nattha, nut tha .
13 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
If there's one man in India whom we could term as the Godfather of Bollywood it would be Aamir Khan. Aamir's third consecutive blockbuster , Peepli Live is the ultimate mockery of the Indian Press and The Indian Government. It pragmatically shows us the extremes of Political Conflict and Media 'Sensations'. One of The peculiarity of this movie is the consistent and coherent digression from the protagonist's dilemma to other subsidary comic stories that come up. These short comic mockeries work out wonders for Peepli Live. Talking about the acting, i would not think twice before saying that these village actors are better than Bollywood actors who could just go do some Advertisements and forget about movies. Natthu ,the protagonist hardly said a word, yet his expression and acting made him an awe-inspiring character on the screen. Even Rajpal Yadav wouldn't have played this part so well. The last phase of the movie was a bit disappointing as compared to the rest of it. The movie literally portrayed no seriousness and gave no chance for sympathy until the 80th minute. Immediately and abruptly after that , the movie ended with a meant-to-be-disturbing ending which failed to achieve its motive of an instant change in mood of the viewers; abandoning us somewhere between sympathy and humour - just like what happens when you laugh out at a prank played in class and the next movement be punished by your teacher. But never mind, the movie delivered what it had to - it probably taught the Indian government and Press a lesson , and gave them strong reason to be ashamed of themselves. Don't miss this one, you never know, you may not get a movie as good as this one for a decade or so - this is BOLLYWOOD after all.

Paa (2009)
5/10
'Paa'thetic.

Warning: Spoilers
Again i had high expectations from this movie , but then again this movie disappointed me. Abhishek characterized as his father's father was a fairly interesting and ironical plot, but the director didn't even come close to making an exceptional film. The plot was extraordinary, this doesn't mean that the director should add some regular, non-interesting mirch masala in it. The relationship between abhishek and vidya was irredeemably stupid, and the end was as always obvious. Some instances prove that amitabh is really intelligent whereas some say that he believed he was lucky to be considered as intelligent. For e.g: In the beginning abhishek is impressed with amitabh's 'out of the box' thinking to make that white globe, but later amitabh confesses that he forgot to paint it and had no such idea of world unity. Patients suffering from Progeria(or pregoria or whatever) don't look like that, no one has SUCH A BIG HEAD when he is 12 still i witness people admiring the make up of amitabh like anything. This movie did'nt 'move' me , not even on ONE instance. The hospital drama was supposed to be touching and heart-breaking but i didn't shed a tear, i didn't even get shivers down my spine , i just sat with hands folded, waiting for these desperate little attempts which were trying to 'move' me, subside. Paresh Rawal was hardly shown in the film. They should have used him much more , at least for the sake of some quality and fun in the movie. In the end, i tried to hide my criticism about the movie, but i just couldn't cover it. Anyways, for the little one liner jokes in the movie which i did like, i rate this movie... - 5.5/10

3 Idiots (2009)

Good, but they overdid it.

Warning: Spoilers
I was eager to watch this movie as the only bollywood films i like are those of aamir khan. When i saw the trailer of the movie, i thought that this movie could be the best of all time in bollywood, but it considerably failed to be. The plot was somewhat interesting , the cast was very appropriate, the acting was superb, the dialogues were wonderful , but the director maybe oozing with overconfidence, tried to put just too much in it. He tried to put it in ALL the good and bad things a teenager should do while he is in college. It was hard to identify the real protagonist in this movie, and even in the end i was left wondering whether raju was the man in the spotlight or aamir. What i hate to watch and hear is a meaningless song with meaningless lyrics and meaningless dance. And thats just what was very prominent in the movie. I don't understand the purpose of such futile non-sense, is it because people like it ? OH REALLY??? or is it because the director finds it attractive? attractive like - cow dung over cake.!? Another flaw i noticed was the change in character of aamir - from when he was a small kid to his teenage years. He looked and behaved like the most innocent one and out-of-all-activities one and later he became the most notorious and daring guy in college. Let the movie be pathetic or super-hit , boman irani was as always at his peak. His character was very well presented and he did just fine enough to make him the funniest as well as the most brutal character in the movie. The movie also had a lot of dramatic, sensitive scenes, at the wrong times, which did at times bring tears in my eyes, and left the other brain-left-at-home audience sob while staring at the screen. I wont say anything about Kareena because there isn't any need to publicize her flaws, there's a need to look for the minimal positivity in her enacting of her cameo. Rest was very appeasing , it was a pleasure to watch nonetheless, and the film was worth watching. 7/10
