Oppenheimer (2023)
Could have been Oscar worthy... But the sub plots made it an Atomic fail
I went to see this movie because I'm Irish and think Cillian Murphy is amazing. I had no idea what the movie was about but wanted to support an Irish actor. I was really impressed by his unfailing acting ability (which has been flawless since the beginning of his public Career), Emily blunt also was brilliant and the other actors - but the writing and script structure was woeful.
The whole movie was written from the pov of audience preknowledge bias, so for someone like me who has never heard of Oppenihemer or have any idea about physics or atomic energy, it felt like I entered into a story half way through. In media, you always start with the 'reset button' and make the assumption that the audience knows nothing and you bring them on a journey. A majority of people will not know about these things and so get lost trying to figure it out. There were actually people in the cinema googling things because it wasn't clear and we had no idea what they were talking about.
Also, the length of the movie was madness... The story wasn't gripping enough to keep your focus for three hours. By 2hrs in people were checking their watches/phones to see what time it was. I think the sub plots and courtroom scenes with Robert Downey Jr (fab acting), could have been totally removed and if the focus had have been on one character and the story of creating the bomb and the moral dilemma he had, it would have been so much more engaging. The side story could have been explained in a few paragraphs at the end and saved us an hour of what felt like pointless b roll and a distraction from the real story which shaped humanity, not some petty narcissistic vengeance plot....
Long movies such as Lord of the Rings keep you gripped the entire time because the storyline and plot is clear And engaging - this was so boring and disappointing script writing.
The acting was fantastic, genuinely brilliant, but if they cut an hour out and stuck to Oppenihemer genius and the dilemma of living with what his intellect produced, it would have been Oscar worthy.

You'd be better off watching an egg boil
I just read that review elsewhere and it perfectly summarised my feelings. I am embarrassed for the actors, directors and everyone involved. What a dreadful movie... From the terrible acting, to the crazy lady who would not be knocked out, she really needed winding down a peg or two. Some moments were beyond stupid and made you think 'do they think I came up the river lagan in a bubble?'
The movie was as much as a success as the maiden voyage of the titanic - a good idea, but poorly executed and never to be seen again.
Seriously do yourself a favour and avoid this. It's 88mins of your life you'll never get back again.
Edie (2017)
I'm a world full of smut, this is a refreshing story
I really loved this movie! It was so nice to watch a movie that wasn't full of sex scenes, cursing and violence. It was so lovely to watch sorting with a bit of depth to the storyline and really moved your heart. You almost felt like you were walking the journey with her, cheering her on and emotionally connecting with her. It was powerful how they even mirrored her regrets with marrying the wrong person to the male character Jonny realise that he was also in a relationship with someone who was also controlling. It was really moving in every way!
If there are men out there in the world still like this, please pass them on my number! Either that or I'll happily meet the actor 😂😉 either way I'm happy!
Bird Box (2018)
Incredible acting but absolutely satanic
The acting in this movie was flawless from start to finish. The plot and the unknown dark spirits were demonic to their core. A lot of people recommended this movie and I was just left thinking why on earth people want to watch things like that let alone want their children to act in them? Those poor kids must have been terrified! Awful movie

Atrocious
There literally are no words that can describe the absolute horror this movie is... I am an Environmental Scientist, I can honestly say that scientifically, not one thing in this movie is accurate... For starters, you cannot predict an earthquake, never mind a global scale catastrophe leading to the destruction of mankind!! If we put the budget of this movie into public awareness of important matters like Co2 emissions, conservation and disaster management the world would be a better place! I mean, is it any wonder people don't take global warming seriously when crap like this comes out and makes a joke out of everything that scientists have worked their whole lives to discover? I honestly cant believe this even got 6stars...
