The Postman (1997)
Some inspiration, and cliche
Similar post apocalyptic as waterworld, similar low tech settings with some interesting designs, similar or almost the same woman throwed in for sex and reproduction. Originality is there, who else ever use postman as a perspective for such a story? I saw none. In China's douban, it gets 7.5 out of 10, which is what it well deserves. The recent tv series that use mobile theater members as the main characters apparently plagiarized postman's idea. The ending fight is real lame, which fails to boost the expectation curve to the climax, which becomes an overly self-indulgence and daydream with no surefoot.
Too many literature quotes make it a drowsy a bit.
Off topic, sometimes, many times, the issue is not tyranny, it is the people. Sometimes people themselves need the harder education and much harder self-control and much better self-discipline. Only attacking people in power, will somehow drag the world to what the film doesn't want.
Do not average corruption evenly into every citizen, in the name of "people", which is what western countries are right now. It should be never people vs gov, it should be right vs wrong.
The Graduate (1967)
Dull plot, unmatchy music, bad performance of leading actor, great leading actress.
Rich kid, no aim, no accomplishment. Had sex with parents' friend's wife, multiple times, and was force into a young, healthy, good looking young girl, his sexual partner's daughter. Not sure if this should be a proper man's dreamed drama. He has zero feeling and compassion for the mom, and went thug by snatching the daughter from her wedding, with no job, no life, no sense of shame towards any other people affected by him negatively.
I think this should be criticized rather than romanticized.
Dustin's goofy and innocent behavior is too fake and cannot stand to the basic human reaction at all.
Anne Bancroft played this character perfectly. The tempo of lines, the movement, the gesture, the facial expression. Every bit fits.
Soundtrack is also a bit off and overly used. Try to create a atmosphere which is not at all presented by the plot. The nostalgic, old school, tranquil, fair tale and retrospective type of music, doesn't fit this shallow and non-sense story.
Even though all the songs in it are great on their own, they just don't fit this story.
All points go for Anne Bancroft.
Skybound (2017)
Creative plot,lack of elaborated details,get-by VFX,medium cast.
For the first 10 minutes, you would be thinking it is a low-cost no- plot film showing a bunch of teens indulging their fancy lives:private plane, colored lovers, multiple relationships.Even when the fake cult leader(any cult is fake, literally) appears, there is still no interesting clue at all.It adds a bit flavour when there are mysteriously many planes hovering in the air.And nuke apocalypse, death of cult leader, looking for resolutions to maximize flight distance, and ultimate sacrifice of the leading role does make it a reasonable storyline. But,between these key story milestones, there is few valuable meaningful transition plot. One can just fast forward all the blank in- between time and will not miss any important event.
VFX is get-by,neither high-end nor coarse.
Story creativity is OK.
It would look more delicate and compact if cut to 40 minutes.
One Way (2006)
Illegible Genre
Quite a nice show, though the genre is illegible.Thriller?Crime?Drama?I can even include it in fantasy or poetic.I like the end.Eddie Schneider is just like me,except for our different professional specialties.Even my imaginary end of that serious to-be-married relationship is like just that, sentimental farewell in falling leaves after going through the madding highs and lows...The black general is an awesome concept! He doesn't contribute too much, and isn't overdrawn, instead he just appears exactly where we want to see him in the film as well as in our own real-life imagination. All of this is to say,6.1 on average is literally an undervalued score.
