Intriguing
16 May 2010
This film is about a person finding themselves and thinking about if they are truly happy in their life and if not, if they can find what makes them happy in life. The main character Sandy, played by director Woody Allen, goes through this. He faces a re-evaluation of his life and what actually would and has made him happy. The whole movie itself, was a movie. So you can see the reflection and what he is personally striving for. Some people think that this film is actually a reflection on Woody Allen's actual life and thoughts. But has not been confirmed, only speculation. How this film was done was great. I personally had a problem really following and understanding the film. It jumped a lot through scenes. It took me a while to find out that it jumped through different times, but was in sequence of his multiple affairs and trysts. Woody Allen, no stranger the criticism his work and its progression. I think that this is one of those movies you would have to see a couple of times to truly understand and appreciate it. Even though this movie does have that kind of scattered feeling, I feel that is exactly what made this movie so good and unable to turn your eyes away from the screen!

good!

This movie was one of the first movies to show graphic violence. Although no where near the modern movies, but the violence in movies had to start somewhere. Has one of the best opening credits sequences ever. The actors are extremely convincing and have the right amount of sympathy to not be melodramatic. The themes of the film such as obsession with celebrity, bonds of love, rebellion, and the Robin Hood concept, are investigated but never construe the enjoyment of watching it. This movie has many different feelings to it. Such as it's funny, shocking, sad, frightening, luring, and debatable. The theme of the actual story of this movie, "bonnie and clyde", has been touched in many other movies with different character names and such, but has the same kind of fateful end.

good

This movie tells the story of a scam gone wrong, because of the incompetence of its protagonists. This film is about its characters inability of people to communicate and humanity's greatest vice, a constant desire for more money. A great shot in this film was the extended close-up of her melancholic face after discovering the extent of Mike's lies. This is also when she becomes disillusioned with people, and this only increases as she comes to a face to face later in the movie. This movie is also about more than just people and humanity, its also about violence and how far would someone go for money. The value of life is strongly seen in this movie. The cutting style in this movie is definitely one to be remembered at its tranquility and detailed way of placing these pieces together just right in the film.

awesomeeeee

This is a movie that people have had a hard time enjoying and a hard time explaining. At first I couldn't make much sense of what I had just seen. But I ended up realizing and understanding what this film was about. It's about all of the changes that are going on in the world, in the united states, and the desire to be one with nature again. Also the message of freedom and the lack of it during the '60's in the U.S.. I thought this movie was absolutely amazing. The film used the two main motorcycle riding characters to represent an entire generation while representing the traditional folk who the cyclists were raised by with representation from every person the cyclists meet along their way to their destination. The people that they meet throughout the journey though not only represent the previous generation, but they also represent the resistance to change that many established generations have felt. They feel that when the youth are attempting to change society for the better or worse. This ability to represent tradition and change and their constant conflict between each other is what makes this movies message and morals absolutely unforgettable and still great to watch over 30 years later.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

One of my fav all time movies..
16 May 2010
I've seen Pulp Fiction many times and I love it even more every time i watch it. The content is unique for when it was released. The plot has many dimensions that make you notice something different and new every time . The characters are developed and are realistic. There's plenty of drama in the three different stories that are occurring simultaneously. There is a good amount of action, and a little bit of comedy intertwined. I would recommend this movie to anyone, but children, unless drug use and violence offends you. Pulp fiction is a must see. You really see how amazing these actors are. I love Uma Thurman's performance, she really got into the role and perfected it.

Love Crawford!
16 May 2010
I just love Joan Crawford. She brings a sense of steely determination and will to this film. Her character is a devoted housewife, who puts the needs of her family first. When her husband began to have an affair with a neighbor, she kicks him out and starts life with her two daughters. Vida was her pride and joy, the apple of her eye and would give anything and do anything for. Vida had taken complete advantage of that and the main story in the film. She messes up so horribly and her mother is always there to clean her mess. But her final act her mother wouldn't help her anymore. She realized that her helping Vida was actually hurting her because her perception on things was extremely construed. What makes this movie so amazing is that Crawford's determined, sympathetic performance draws you in. "Mildred Pierce" is an exceptional film that uses some of the best elements of classic cinema. The story moves at a sleek pace,. Watching this movie gives the viewer a powerful, emotional cinematic experience.

Dr STRANGElove
16 May 2010
This movie has an excellent view into both Kubrick's humor and view of the world. The movie is about the paranoia and stupidity of both the US and the Soviet Union. They both try to prevent getting killed by the other, and eventivitably end up blowing each other up. This is the only funny nuclear holocaust film I've seen just by how the story is told and how the events keep getting more and more ridiculous. There is just one problem after another, more prejudice, more stupidity and more paranoia after the other. Peter Sellers does an amazing job at playing as three distinct characters. If you couldn't tell, he's the president of the United States, an British RAF officer, and the rather strange ex-Nazi German scientist; Dr. Strangelove. The special effects can be a little weird but you hardly notice, but appreciate it.

The Graduate (1967)

Okay
16 May 2010
When it was released in 1967 and everyone had gone to go see it. The college crowds loved it because it was the first of its kind. It was a film that proposed adults were emotional sell-outs who thrived on being superficial and materialistic. The film is very creative in more ways than one. The first is the creative film shots that were filmed and the cutting of scenes and images suddely. The second is the sexual imagery which really keeps you on the edge of your seat and always thinking and wondering. I really liked how Hoffman's mother was deliberately made up to look like Mrs. Robinson and completely ironic for many reasons. Audiences were obviously very shocked yet intrigued by all this sexual innuendo and the lack of traditional values. It was such a huge slap in the face of traditions during the same time that society was questioning itself in the 60s, it certainly doesn't seem surprising that the film was one of the biggest hits and definitely created a new theme/genre in film history.

great!!
16 May 2010
The style of the movie is amazing. The colors that are used are incredible, the use of the deep reds. Which emphasizes how the residents of Bed-Stuy must have been feeling on that day. The cinematography is to be remembered. It features a lot of weird viewpoints and angles, but compliment the story perfectly. The dialog was on point in this film, and couldn't of been done better if they re wrote the script a million times! It's not just because of the script, its how the actors actually had added their own style and personality to the dialog. This film is a must see for its amazing story that doesn't let up and to see why this movie is so great for when it was released in 1989. Greatly done by director Spike Lee.

I just love, love, love, Jack Nicholson! I think he is an outstanding actor, and I can see why he has done so well in his career. He played the character perfectly in this movie. Robert was such an ass and also coward. I liked how the movie was filmed, how it was on site filming. It amazed me to see how Robert looked at his father, and how he almost was trying to reconnect, mend the broken pieces, with his father. But he knew that it was pointless and if he hadn't had a stroke they wouldn't even be talking and he wouldn't even be there for him. I think the title is very descriptive to what the film is actually about. Or at least I think that it means that there are few things in life that trigger happiness and tragedy, its just a matter of which ones consume you and how you live your life. I would recommend this movie to more of an older audience, no children.

Gun Crazy (1950)

not so great
11 April 2010
I think the whole gun crazy concept was a little exaggerated, but the hayes code is probably the reason why it was done and such. The love story between the bart and laurie was great until you could see that money is what really consumed her, and her being a killer? I thought that was a little ridiculous.I also feel they could of gone around the code a little bit, because I feel the ending could of been done much better. I just overall did not enjoy this movie, maybe if they re did the movie it would be better, but even then Idon't think this is possible. I was excited to see a film noir, butthis has just got me discouraged!

The Egg and I (I) (1947)

eggcellent!
7 April 2010
I absolutely loved this movie. The theme is still such a popular one used today. Putting people in new situations, and seeing how they adapt to such. I found quite a lot of humor as they transitioned from the city life to being chicken farmers to harvest eggs. The chemistry between Betty and Bob is absolutely phenomenal and hilarious. One of my favorite parts was when Bob was with Harriet Putnam, you could see the jealousy flourish from Betty because she could tell that Ms.Putnam wanted Bob. I really enjoyed when she chucked her shoe at Bob and hit him right in the head! As a painful reminder! I recommend this movie to anyone!

great!!
28 March 2010
I absolutely loved how the movie was scripted. I loved how the story was told. It's a struggle with Joe's life, and what he really wants from it, and I love how it was described. It seemed to me as a great mystery movie. But not your standard mystery. It more so explains why it's a mystery and that is why I enjoyed it. Full of mystery and some would say a love triangle. It's so devious as well. I could see why this movie was so well enjoyed when it was released. There are so many surprises and quirks in this movie that make it wonderful. I personally fell in love with just about every main character in this film. They are all very well distinguished. I recommend this movie to any age group, and this is a movie would see again!

awakening
10 February 2010
This movie was well done. It's depiction of the government and law I feel was realistic. To elaborate on that, is that the main character Allen, who was jailed for just being at a robbery, was truly innocent. He was placed in a prison where the inmates were treated horrible and with absolutely no respect what so ever. Allen proved that he could be an outstanding, respected citizen, but the people of the law did what they could to deceive him. Allen had met all aspects of life, inside and outside of prison. This movie goes to show that many innocent people are jailed with out the ability to be freed. I would recommend this movie to anyone of a mature audience. A younger audience would not understand a lot of this movie.

screwball comedy for the win!
10 February 2010
This was a very well done screwball comedy. I especially loved this movie. In the movie, you could really relate to the characters personalities. I loved the amount of irony and the lessons they taught in the movie. I really wish they had a lot more movies like this now a days. The character of Godfrey was one that everyone could love. His wittiness and intelligence are characteristics that are extremely enjoyed by an audience. What I loved about this movie is the struggle and determination it took for the characters to get what they want. Everyone is guaranteed to get a laugh or two out of this movie! I'd recommend this movie to anyone!

Ironic
10 February 2010
I found this movie to be filled with irony. But watching the movie you can almost for see what will happen. Leila is a confused, bored house wife, who is constantly looking for happiness. When she thinks she finds true happiness, she clings onto it, leaving behind all that she knew. But she finds her self almost comparing notes between her ex and her current husband. She learned that if she only had communicated more about what had bothered her in her previous marriage, that it could have been salvaged a lot easier that she intended it to be. She realizes that words are nothing with out action, but she learns that too far into her second marriage and finds herself looking back and hoping for change once again. The main conflict in this movie, is Leila vs herself. You can not have true happiness with out yourself being truly happy. I liked this movie, but I would only recommend this movie to women, I can't see a man truly finding enjoyment in this movie.

Classic!
10 February 2010
I enjoyed this movie a lot. I thought that the plot of the movie was realistic and relevant to anytime period in American history. There is always that woman that does what she needs to do to climb the class system. I feel that the character of Lilly was portrayed correctly and could of not been done better. What I enjoyed most was when she realized what love really was. Throughout the movie all of the men that fell for her were in love with her, had given her everything, even lost their careers for her. Until she had met Cortland, she did not understand why these men gave up everything for happiness. The way her life had ended up was far from what she expected to be possible. I'd recommend this movie to anyone of a mature audience so you are able to understand the content and the under-laying meaning of the movie and plot.

Great!
27 January 2010
I loved this movie. I never thought I could be a fan of silent movies, but this had defiantly proved me wrong. I thought the plot line of the movie was strong, but could have been more detailed. This movie was well developed for the time period it was released in. What I found to be interesting was Alonzo's delusional mind, and how his delusions played out in the movie. What I thought was stupid in the movie was Nanon's fear of hands, mens hands. The idea worked in the movie, but I feel that they emphasized it way too much in the movie. I would recommend this movie for anyone except children, because they would not understand what is going on in the movie, and probably wouldn't keep their attention on the movie since it is a silent film.
