Cold Feet (2006)
Spoiler Alert - This one is solid Gold!
Yes folks, from the mind of Rob Baniewicz. Known for the cult film, "The Good Life" and "Fisher's Bay" comes a tale so disturbing and so delightfully twisted that you may loose your mind!!!! Seen at the Philadelphia Film Festival and at Tromadance, one could say: Rob is making an impact on the very way we see film today.
Using his film expertise, Robert Baniewicz depicts a world in which anything can happen. And the black and white stock that Robert hand spun through his bolex camera only adds depth, or as the french say, "mis-en-sen" (spelled wrong here on purpose) to the composition of the images. Thus, increasing one's pleasure doubly.
Kudos to your ROBERT! I'll be looking forward to your next film.
PS. Can you sign my limited edition "The Good Life" lobby card I bought off ebay?
Assisted Living (2003)
Huh?
I just want to preface this with the fact that everyone has an opinion. Making a film or a piece of art in general is respectable. You're putting yourself out there for people to tear you apart or love you. So, with the utmost respect...How is this being reviewed so well? The narrative was very weak and the documentary sections seemed to ramble on and on. How many times can a montage of old people's hands and feet be interesting? I felt nothing for the lead character at all and halfway through the film wanted to go to sleep. While combining documentary and fiction film is an interesting concept, it totally doesn't work here. It seems like something patched together.
Primer (2004)
This played at Sundance?
I would best describe this movie in the following scenario: I used to know someone who was very into science and whenever I'd see him he'd go on and on about something he's up to that I had no interest in. He loved talking about it so much and would get wrapped up in telling me that he would continue regardless if I looked like I cared or not. He would speak in a different "science" language and even if he did grab my attention at the beginning, I would get lost halfway through or he would go on for too long. It's kinda' like this movie. I felt I was never "with the characters" during this film and it was almost as if I was on the outside looking in, trying to make sense of it all. Halfway through, I gave up even caring about trying to figure it out because I had no "in" to the film. I didn't care about the characters or the plot. I just didn't care. The good things about this movie? It was cheap to make: $16,000 and it looks good and they do have decent actors here. But, that's all I can really say. Movies that make no sense aren't always a turn off for me, like say Muholland Drive. But, at least there you have things that are engaging and characters who are interesting. This one was just a complete bore. And at only 80 minutes, it seemed too long.
