Flashforward (2009)
Outstanding!
This unique and well executed show is mind bogglingly brilliant. This is not a Lost replacement, but a show superior of Lost-and i love Lost.
The cast was well selected and are more than believable.
And yet, it has been cancelled after it's first season which ended on a dramatic finale which I need answers too.
The story even related to modern times with the atom smashing experiment which had been performed recently and is being performed again.
I now want to read the book they got their inspirations from
ABC you have just killed off your best show. Let's hope Karma bites you back!
Creature Unknown (2004)
As scary as Scooby Doo...with the lights on!
I repeat 'As scary as Scooby Doo...with the lights on!'
I only watched this film as when i was on holiday, the villa we stayed in had this film. So i thought i might as well watch it as i am a horror fanatic. The first two minutes played and I realised this film is of poor quality, acting and script. I do not need to hear a bang then for the character to say 'oh what was that, it was a bang' So i turned it off.
Days later I realised Maggie Grace who plays shannon in Lost was in it. I love Lost and have seen many films and TV shows with the actors of Lost in them:
Vantage Point-Matthew Fox / The Fog-Maggie Grace / Lord of the rings and Flashforward-Dominic Monohghan / Flashforward-Desmonds wife in Lost (Olivia in Flashforward)
So i bravely watched the entire film. Not even Maggie Grace could save this one way ticket to disaster ville. The monster looks like the swamp monster from scooby doo and is not scary, just laughable. The actors are all terrible and clearly have not watched the film themselves...sorry Maggie. The only good thing about this film is the twist at the end.
Stay away from this film. It is also known as 'The Forest' Not even Sky 3 would show this. This is only number 2 on the worst ever horror films though as 'The Signal' has beaten this film to top spot.
The Signal (2007)
Pull the plug on this terrible film
Before watching this film, i was hopeful that it would be decent. However, i have never been so wrong in my entire life.
From start to finish, this film is rubbish. The story is never told. It is just three extracts of peoples lives which make no sense and are so confusing even confused.com would have problems understanding the film.
How many times do you have to be shown that the person is hallucinating and what they see is not real. When the severed head began to talk I had my fingernails ready to scoop out my eyes at the stupidity of the scene. Then we realise the head was not talking.Pointless.
Transmission 2 began to make me feel less suicidal as the dark humour was o.k...not great. Then it fell into the stupid script broth and it lost me all together.
The ending made no sense, nothing was resolved or explained. This has now taken the number 1 spot on my worst films I have ever seen. Taking over from 'The Forest also known as Creature Unknown' which is as scary as watching Scooby Doo...with the lights on!
The Midnight Meat Train (2008)
Bloody Brilliant
This film does not re-define the genre, but it is fantastic.
The script is brilliant and locating the film on a subway is original and claustrophobic. The lead role plays the character effortlessly and not once does he or any other actor fail to be believable.
The one downside being Vinnie Jones. He is too well known to play the killer and you always say in the back of your head "Oh thats Vinnie Jones, it's just a film' Horror films are supposed to absorb you into the surreal but by parading his face it loses it's audience. Luckily, he only says one word during the entire film and that's towards the end. I do still think a mask would have been better, or an unknown actor.
Overall a great film with super script, the ending is slightly predictable, but it doesn't matter as the film is actually good.
The Collector (2009)
Home Alone - for murderers
This film is an adult version of Home Alone, with graphic traps and a healthy dosage of blood.
The directors of Saw have done an amazing job with this title. The Collector parades around the mansion in an executioners mask and is up there with the likes of Freddy and Jason, but creepier. The actors all do a great job and are believable.
Unfortunately, clichés are found in this production, but the story writing keeps the pace of the movie. Another downside is the predictable ending, but it kind of 'has' to go in that direction for sequels to be made. (which I want)
The traps are some of the best to date and beat those of the modern Saw franchise(V & VI). A must see for horror fans.
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
A very clever movie which deserves far more praise.
This film begins gently, but soon becomes an amazing experience. The twists and turns are unexpected and very clever. The acting is way above par which make the film even more enjoyable. About half way through the film I realised the pun in the title 'A perfect Getaway' The scenery makes the film stand out of the crowed genre as it is not a typical thriller/horror as it is set mostly in the day time with feisty characters, not ditsy prom girls!
Towards the climax of the film, they remove the colour of the video for a grey/blue (for effect) but to me it detracts from the film. However, that is the only bad point I can make, which is a great thing.
