Bobby (2006)
Touching, sad, funny, human
This is a great movie and I enjoyed it immensely, as did everyone in the theater. There was clapping at the end and everyone stayed until the last photograph appeared on the screen.
I don't understand these critics who are confused by the many story lines; if anything, this is what adds to the movie and makes it different.
Freddy Rodriguez is a revelation; he steals every scene he's in. What a great actor, so fresh, so human, so natural, and so cute too. His freshness and warmth gives the movie that focal point from where we were all standing back then, when the real story took place. He deserves a best supporting actor nomination for this role.
Estevez delivers the perfect mix of archival footage with actors' interaction and his casting choices were outstanding; he gets so much depth out of all the actors. Brian Geraghty and Shia LaBeouf are just perfect; Sharon Stone is understated and perfectly effective. Helen Hunt is surprisingly soft and believable.
There are two stand-out scenes in this movie in my opinion, where the acting is extremely enjoyable to watch: one with Laurence Fishburne and Freddy Rodriguez and the other one with Sharon Stone and Demi Moore.
I enjoyed this movie and found myself thinking about it and now writing about it afterward.
Crónicas (2004)
This is a very negative movie with no redeeming quality whatsoever.
This movie is not only badly acted by everyone, specially John Leguizamo, who appears lost in this movie. The script is so negative, with none of the main characters having any redeeming qualities; they are all as dis-likable as the main character. A pedophile child killer, who's always on camera looking as though he's orgasmic, makes the film always uncomfortable to watch.
The reporters are exaggerated cartoon-like characters, ramming the message down our throats that the only care for ratings and fame and not the people involved, so many times, that it becomes an insult to anyone's intelligence. The lack of subtlety in this movie is rampant.
Don't waste your time with this trash of a movie; anyone with this outlook should not be encouraged to ever make another film.
Love Actually (2003)
Laughed and cried throughout this gem
This movie made me feel like it was Christmas when I saw it yesterday, November 10. I left the theater actually looking around for snow and Christmas trees, and I live in Florida.
My favorite genre is romantic comedies and writer director Richard Curtis is, without a doubt, the master of the smart romantic comedy genre. He has been a genius with "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Notting Hill", "Bridget Jones' Diary" and now this one.
The cast is also excellent. Hugh Grant is, as usual, impeccable in this genre. He is perfect in this movie and doesn't disappoint for a second. He has that ability to seem bemused by his own charm, and has so much self-confidence that he plays the British prime minister as if he took the job to be a good sport.
The movie is about love. Actually, about all kinds of love, happening to all kinds of people, of all ages and classes. It's too bad the movie couldn't be longer so that the three people, who ended up with unresolved love issues, could find their soul mates as well.
Don't miss it. It's not a chick flick, or a guy's flick, it's an all around feel good flick.
I give this movie 8 stars out of 10.
