Ad Astra (2019)
Realistic Outer Space Movie ever
The first thing you'll notice about this movie - is the details. This movie gives enough time for the audience to breath and soak in each and every scene. Its more of drama scifi movie than just a Scifi movie. It is little less technical if you compare it to interstellar but has much more emotional core attached to it.
The most amazing thing about this movie (which is the reason you should watch this movie in IMAX) is Cinematography. Score given by Max Ritcher feels little repetitive but suits the scenes perfectly. In the acting department - it is all about Brad Pitt. One of my favorite role of his after Moneyball, Fight club and Twelve monkey.
If you have already seen any of James gray movie - which you should in case you don't want to get disappointment. Its not regular space adventure movie but more of a personal quest. This movie takes a different and substantial step towards the space adventure movie genre, which I believe all the next space adventure movie should take a note of.
Tracks (2013)
There is nothing ordinary about it...
A movie that yet so simple can make big impact through its way of sincere storytelling.I won't still considered this movie as inspirational. But it does manage to engage you in its innocence. Briefly its about A Journey of young girl captured through a dreary desert where she constantly struggles to find the answers related to her past.
Main character played by Mia Wasikowska is almost perfect in judging passion, weakness, struggles of the actual character"Robyn" . She looks very mature as an actress now since her noticeable performance in "The Kids are all right" in 2010.
After seeing this film I definitely count John Curran name in one of the underrated director of the current time. He has a unique style of telling a story. The film has a decent soundtrack that goes very well with situation. As the movies is set in Australia, you will able to see the most exquisite locations of the vast Australian desert.
This movie is worth a try for its ability of finding an aura of innocence.
Comet (2014)
Scenic, Poetic, Comic
These are three words I feel describes the features of this movie. This first feature film from Sam Esmail truly takes its viewer to the different phases of a normal relationship in the most unusual way.
This movie might be confusing at a times and the parallel universe thing sometimes adds to this confusion. But I think all this confusion adds to the beauty of this movie, making it more interesting. There are some scenes in this movie when director wants its user to interpret the moment in their own way and stick to it. I think if you stick to what you interpret from particular moment , the movie will become much more simpler to watch.
The cast Justin Long and Emmy Rossum did a fine job and the chemistry between them truly works its way to the audience. The natural flow of conversation between Justin and Emmy was one of the high point of that chemistry in my view.
But most of all I was impressed by work from Director "Sam Esmail". It doesn't seems to be a first feature film from him. The way the story unfolds in the movie is unique, though some may argue over the originality. The movie keeps me engaged throughout, in fact this was one of the movie I wasn't bored watching it for second time. This film was also the first feature film project for most of the crew members in areas like cinematography , art direction , film editing from what I see. Which is truly remarkable. Before winding this up, I would like to mention the awesome soundtrack of the movie, which I'm desperately looking forward to its official release.
This is definitely one of the best indie movie I've seen this year.

The Babadook (2014)
Refreshingly creepy
It's always refreshing to see the way a new film director jumps into the feature film making and then tries out his own thing to come up with different. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. But from the movies which I came across even if it doesn't works there is always something new in these first feature film. I saw this movie "Submarine" from Richard Ayode – his first feature film, felt the same newness in every aspect of that film. Same thing I felt in this film.
If you compare "The Babadook" to any main stream horror movie you will find this movie differ from them in many areas. The way this movie is pictured is kind of sad and depressing like overall ambiance of the movie but that really adds to the creepiness of the movie.
The cast did a fabulous job special mention for the Noah Wiseman. He portrayed the child – Samuel in the movie has very good face when it comes to the expression. I hope to see many more film in future from-Writer/Director Jennifer Kent who is definitely in my list of directors to look forward to.
There was talk about the whether "the Babadook" is real ghost or it just the figment of imagination. Whichever way you think, this movie certainly gives a breath of fresh air to horror and psycho- thriller genre.
The Painted Veil (2006)
Overall a good movie
A moving tale of love/hate, obsession, despise where you will find yourself in capture sometimes with the Dr. Fane (Played by Edward Norton) and sometimes with Ms. Fane (Played by Naomi Watts). Both of them did a splendid job to keep there character through out the journey. Yet they are so far from their opinions , way of living , attitude towards life - this film depicts journey of those two paths which in time tries to follow the same path of love.
Also, one of the best soundtrack that goes along with every emotion so well that you can not separate the beats and the moment in the movie.
The movie is bit serious and does not have any light moments as you look through it which can be seen as one of the weak points.
Director John Curran does a great job with the given script by slowly opening the revealing core of the lead characters. Capturing the beauty of rural china in the most unique way, also gives this movie a different feel than the other Romantic-drama films.
Definitely worth a watch with your loved ones.
I'll give this movie 7 and half Stars + extra half star for its beautiful background Score and Cinematography
Gotham (2014)
"This Series deserves a better class of Creators"
Just saw the pilot episode of Gotham. I'm sure most of us are craving for that same feeling, energy we got after watching the Batman trilogy from Nolan. After hearing the news that the DC comics are coming up with this concept I was very thrilled and excited to see how the Gotham Exist before Bruce Wayne.
This concept looks very innovative and experimental where the creators and writers have enough opportunity to play around with all these famous character from the DC comics. This series can make audience to enhance the depth of understanding these characters or it can also deface the image of these character we formed in our mind. So, this could get little delicate to handle a subject like this and still , even more harder to get all those fans expectation fulfilled, when the memories of Dark knight are still fresh in their conscious.
Well, looking at the first episode I'm not sure how this series will able to handle the pressure or expectation from the fans around the world. As far as the acting goes they i don't feel much potential in many of the characters, since they have big shoes to fill in. First of all , the main character in this series is looks like Det. James Gordon . We have few known characters such as Alfred, Penguin, Riddler, and some new character such as Fish Mooney, Det. Harvey Bullock. The first episode lacks the pace, which could get little boring for audience.
This series can have the great future ahead but it should overcome the hurdle to pass these beginning stages.I hope this series will turn out to be good since I was waiting for this for so long. So I just wanted to say that "We ( the audience) are people of simple taste. We enjoy dynamite, gunpowder and ... gasoline " So bring some ACTION......
Boyhood (2014)
The most ambitious and unique from linklater
It was truly delight to watch this movie where you can easily relate to each aspect, stages of your life until you become the young adult. This movie is all about how little things in life is so important and counts towards the person you become. I'm from India from a middle class background but still I can feel the same closeness with this character which makes me wonder how everyones life is so closely related and no matter where they came from. Here, all credit goes to Linklater as he chose all those moments which are very close to everyone's heart. That ability of his collect all those moments and convert them into 165 mins long movie is a work of genius.
Until now I have seen his movies which generally span over a 24 hours or so. with this feature he has not only challenged himself but in that effort gave an original piece of art which will be remembered as one of his best masterpiece till date.
Looking at the cast I couldn't help saying how beautifully Patricia Arquette played the role of Mom. She is the heart of this movie where every emotion originates and ends .Truly she puts up great performance which in my opinion calls out for academy to take a notice of it.The other performance from Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane,Lorelei Linklater were also noticeable and awesome.
The soundtrack of the movie is mix of songs released in these 12 years which also helps to brings some memories if you know them.
An original, unique, artistic, beautifully crafted limited edition movie is limitless in all ways.
Filmistaan (2012)
Bollywoodpanti
A film made with true love for Bollywood , about a character and how his life goes through different situation expressing that love to his audience who could be a small group of children playing in the field. I saw this movie with subtitles, I should say this movie is treat for the people who know Hindi and has a good background about the Bollywood. Not sure about those who will watch solely depending on subtitles. Since many of the comic sequence in this movie needs a little bit of background.
It's about a movie buff who lives in his dream world that someday he's going to be a superstar of Bollywood. He faces many difficult situations in his journey but never ever gives up on his dream. There are many heart touching moments in this film which doesn't makes you cry but increases your affection for the character.
A simple film made with honest heart embracing the Bollywood in its own way. This film gives you a definite relief from the current commercial movies being played in the theater.
Go for this movie with all your movie buffs..
Fargo (2014)
Simple.. yet so twisted, nothing great...but highly entertaining
At start it looks simple , a typical murder mystery, that kind of thing. but as it progresses it takes you to deepest and darkest form of the human nature. As it said that its based on the true events happened in Minnesota back in 2006, it definitely gives you feel of reality devoid of any dramatization of the actual events.
The story is very unexpected and surprising at some moments.I did not see Coen brothers "Fargo", hence I can not compare between these two. But I am very positive that new one will give good fight to the classic one.
The casting is so superb that performance given by the cast looks very natural. The overall feel of the series is different as its set in winter and in snowy town of Minnesota and sometimes in North Dakota. The background score suits to tragic and sometimes comic nature of the situation.
Currently I'm on the 8th Episode of the season and eagerly waiting on what gonna happen next. If you're still searching for good TV show after breaking bad , you can surely give a try for this one.
OXV: The Manual (2013)
indie at its best
Long time since I've seen such movie which makes you think, and adore the imagination put in this film. A genuine art cinema which has an enormous potential to carry on his shoulders and make an example for modern generation filmmakers.
I normally go for the movies which has higher user/critic ratings or if I have good recommendation for it, but this movie was exception to that. Surprisingly this movie rises up your expectation from the start and keep on raising that bar right till the end.
Storyline moves through different twist, angles making you to focus on it and get very much involved in it. It doesn't bore you with details rather it wants you to keep your focus on the character which I think makes this movie even more fun to watch.
Darren, Writer/director gives an refreshing, new way of looking at what we call the chemistry between two people.
All and all, go for this movie and expect a smart, refreshing , brilliantly executed cinema based on intelligent script.
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Its hard to like this movie, but I love it..
My Second film of Coen brothers after I watched "The Big Lebowoski" and I think Coen brothers are really best. Very small, simple, artistic movie about the life of struggling singer and his connection with different people.
Set in the 1961 mostly in New York City, this film gives a different shade of New York which I personally fell in love with. Llewyn Davis played by Oscar was simply amazing, and I think lot of the work was done to the development of this character. The other roles played by Carey mulligan and Justin Timberlake were small but they do leave their mark.
If you just look at the story line of this movie, you would think that this is a sad or depressing movie, which sometimes it becomes. But all the credit goes to director, cinematographer and music that goes along with this movie, you kind of get captured in the beauty of this art.
My rating for this movie is 8 out of 10.
Her (2013)
Complex journey of Emotions
I'm writing this review right after watching the movie with credits music playing into my ears. It was such a delight to watch "Her". An amazingly crafted by Spike Jonze and delivered by the whole cast of the film specially Joaquin Pheonix and Scarlett Johansson (Voice). Both of them were so brilliant in their performance. I was very much moved by the way Scarlett Johansson voice used in the movie.
I think there were very few sci-fi movies that were so touching and deeply moved the audience, emotionally. This film give all the different stages one has to go through in an relationship but in refreshingly new way.
A great film , must watch for all those movie lovers who love a Sci-fi and hate drama or any combination of those two.
Dexter: What's Eating Dexter Morgan? (2013)
Analysis of Dexter Morgan
This season is turning out to be all about what Dexter Morgan is deep down inside. Vogal seems to be the analyst of Dexter Morgan. There are few things that could be the most interesting point of this season.
1.Debra is going out of her mind, which makes the Dexter vulnerable to her.
2. Vogal motives are still an hidden agenda, she definitely has some other role apart from seeking help from Dexter.
I guess we have much more interesting stuff to look forward to,much more secrets are gonna unfold and past gonna reveal.
*****9/10****
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)
Overdramatic Flying Sikh
I went to watch the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag the other day.I did not had high expectation from the movie.May be this was the reason I wasn't that disappointed with the movie.
I like the way director structure this movie by starting it on low point and ending it on high note.It was a good attempt to put Milkha Singh's life on the screen. But what this movie lacks was the Character development which is the most important factor of the Biography genre. There were few character for example, a Sikh friend of Mikha Singh while he was serving in the army.I did not get why that character was included or there should be a better use of that character(It keeps on reminding me "Gomer Pyle" from Full metal jacket). The movie does produce some exciting moments but it gets lost because of run-time of the movie.
Zinda is the only catchy song that comes on your lips.In the acting department Farhan Akhtar was gave best performance till date of his acting career. He tried to give total justice to the character and his hard work can be easily seen while you will be watching this movie. As far as the Director was concerned,I could not able to found something new, refreshing which Rakesh Omprakash Mehra always gives.
If it were a bit short movie in length I think this was the worth a watch for solid performance of Farhan Akhtar.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Sherlock stole the show
This is thus far the most entertaining Hollywood flick for the year 2013.
I was having some excitement about the movie due 3 reasons.First due to the J.J. Abrams the director of this franchise. I was pretty sure he always has that mystery factor revolving around his plot.He certainly did not disappoint.Second is the most common reason which is love for the sci-fi thrillers. The third and the last is for Benedict Cumberbatch, which he delivers. The way he has that command over his dialogue delivery is marvelous.
The rest of the member of the film also puts up some decent drama especially the chemistry between the Kirk and Spock was worth a watch.
All n all this is good movie to watch and enjoy in 3D effects.
