Civil War (2024)
Multiple Inaccurate Elements
While there is some good action and a film than captures the mood of our nation, some of precepts are so far out of reality it drags downs the script. Loved though that Texas and California were allies in the movie, and the hatred portrayed captured well the feeling in many circles, but the absolute lack of discipline in the military was beyond the pale.
The lack of context for the civil war was a shortfall as well the backdrop. For the record, given so many nations hate the U. S., I would have thought there would have been some mention of interference.
This film could have been so much better.
The Kominsky Method: Chapter 17. In All the Old Familiar Places (2021)
What Happened
The first season was a 10 - a very rare rating for me to administer. Second second a 8 - very good. This new season, terrible, not funny and little to connect with. All my wife and I said when we looked at one another half way through the first episode was "what happened?"
The Blacklist: The Kazanjian Brothers (No. 156/157) (2020)
Terrible
The use of animation for a portion of episode was adding insult to injury. Add that to rediculous relationship between Red and Elizabeth with her mom, has taken this show from solid to almost unwatchable.
First They Killed My Father (2017)
A Must Watch For Those Who Support Socialism
One-third of the population of Cambodia was murdered under the Khmer Rouge as the US and it's allies abandoned Vietnam and all of Southeast Asia. This beautiful film without overdoing violence and bloodshed accurately captures the essence of that period and the transformation of a people liberation into death camps, destruction of freedom and families in the name of Communism. Anyone supporting the political left should take the time to watch what happened in the not too distant past. Cambodia is just one example of Marxist failure leading to over 100 million deaths in the 20th Century alone.
The Irishman (2019)
Slow
While I was about to give this slow moving crime drama a 7; the last 30 minutes was as slow and depressing; as the Robert De Niro character was dealing with his impending death. The three hours could have been compressed into less than 2; it would have been more merciful.
Unplanned (2019)
Reality Check
Before watching this movie with family I read with horror the political, not artistic reviews of so many seething with disgust about this true story. My 17 year old granddaughter after watching this incredible movie ask - how could they give ratings of 1 or 2 after viewing? With so many in Hollywood preaching on TV, in movies and other art forms for Abortion rights, it was refreshing to see a well acted movie, with solid plot and very good acting tell the truth.
The Two Popes (2019)
Liberation Theology Propaganda
I would have rated this film significantly lower - possibly a 2 - 4; but the acting regardless of message was high quality. So sad, the existing pope elected to strengthen the Catholic Church bad, the Liberation Theology successor who desires to overturn 2 millennia of faith. Amazing that Hollywood continues to pump out blatant propaganda.
Strike Back (2010)
Why the amount of sexuality?
Starting literally from the first scene this series felt like a porn movie rather than an action file. Continued to watch second episode but eventually gave up given the amount of sexuality. The plot and acting was good and disappointed to face constant sex scenes.
Overcomer (2019)
A Moving Story of Victory
We all need to see movies it out both entertaining and make you feel good. This movie provided both as well a message especially to young people that they are beautifully and wonderfully made by the hand of God. Violence and sex fill the screens both large and small; while we wonder why youth feel alienated (22% of millennials have no friends, highest at risk for suicide are young men 18-24). Keep producing great story lines, encouraging all of us while keeping artistic standards high.
