When a Man Falls in the Forest (2007)
Excels in sophisticated subtleness
This film is a dramatic look at the lives and relationships (or lack of relationships) of the four main characters. It is a thought provoking look into what can happen when we allow ourselves to dwell within our personal misery to the point that we can no longer connect to those around us. The acting, writing, cinematography and direction are excellent, and the film is riddled with beautifully captured moments of life to which so many people can relate. If you are looking for a shallow sexy thriller, see Basic Instinct or Sliver. But if you are someone who appreciates the simplistic intricacies of what makes up the soul of a person...this movie is an excellent choice for you. It is a mature film that doesn't lay the emphasis on effects and the usual circus but on the subtleties and realities of people standing in the middle of their lives.
Berlin am Meer (2008)
Set me in the mood for Berlin
I am being transferred to Berlin this summer and know nothing about this city set aside WWII and JFK's pancake mishap. I watched this movie and Berlin Calling to get into the mood. Where Berlin Calling is just an arrangement of blaring music and no real story to connect with, I really enjoyed the visuals and the atmosphere of Berlin am Mer. I had to watch it in German as the movie is not available in English or with subtitles. I still enjoyed the music and I could get what it was about - the actors are that good and Tom has the cutest smile ever!
I hope the movie gets translated in English soon because I want to know what he says to the girl at the train station. Oh and did I mention that the main actor is hot!
Pets to the Rescue (2002)
Lovely family movie!
This is a lovely family movie that made my kids scream with laughter. The pets are adorable and the message is worthwhile too. My kids are 5 and 9 and really enjoyed the movie very much. At that age, children don't expect Oscar ripe performances of the actors. It's all about the fun and a different movie than what you normally see on TV. I'm glad for those smaller movies that offer me and my kids a bit of a variety to the big blockbuster movies. You've seen them in the cinema, then on the tube and then again and again the same movies. I rather prefer new stories and my kids too. All in all i full heartedly recommend this movie to other families with young children.
