Dead & Buried (1981)
fun film to watch
*POSSIBLE SMALL SPOILERS* i watched "dead and buried" yesterday evening with my girlfriend and we both were well entertained by the movie. i mainly like splatter and eurohorror, she is more into "mainstream" horror like stephen king, halloween, scream etc. but the film satisfied both of us.
"D&B" is set up on the classic "mad scientist" idea, but mixes it up with voodoism and some thriller or crime elements. the plot is not too complex, but straight and there are not as many plot holes as in the most 80s horror flicks. the blood does not flow like in fulcis movies, but "D&B" still has some gory scenes to offer. you will also find some shocking moments that will make your heart stop beating for a second.
"Dead and Buried" is a great mixture of a good plot, great gore, shock-scenes, some humor and a good atmosphere. not only for horror freaks.
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
Pretty good.
although NOES 2 is not as good as the first part of the series, it´s still fun watching. i cannot understand that this movie just gets a rating of 4.4 here at IMDB. the first 20 minutes of the movie were, i have to admit, strange to watch and irritating because freddy was there in reality, not only in the kids dreams, so this movie does not follow the "rules" of the first part of the series. but when get along with this new setting, this movie is enjoyable. of course it does not reach the excellence of NOES 1, but it is still a movie worth watching. NOES 2 is not are gore-movie, the gore amount is low, but the story is creative and innovative. the fact that freddy takes over the boys body to kill the other kids makes NOES 2 even look like a kind of psycho thriller. to sum it up in one sentence: the movie is not as scary, gory or shocking as the first part of the series, but i´ll promise you a fun time watching it.
7,5 out of 10.
The Ring (2002)
Maybe my expectations were too high... (small spoilers)
... but the movie was boring. sorry, but that's what i think.
i like horror movies, like the old italian stuff or also some friday 13th or nightmare on elm street. some people say, that "Neo-horror" just sucks, but that´s not quite true in my opinion, "may" is a pretty good movie for example. but back to "the ring".
when some friends of mine saw the ring they said they were too afraid to drive home alone, to watch a video or to answer the phone. they also told me that also the "tough guys" were afraid after having watched the movie. so i thought that it would be cool, scary and maybe also gory. but i failed. i TERRIBLY failed.
the ring seems like someone wanted to make a horror film and thought about a story. he invented some teenagers that went camping, like in some other horror flicks (not to mention some names ;)). then he needed something deadly to make the movie scary. zombies and other villains seemed to "old fashioned" to him and so he came up with the idea of a deadly VIDEOTAPE!!! wow. scary.
the whole plot of the movie seems like a kind of alibi for the film to take so long. there's actually not much action in the plot, not to mention the absolute minimum of blood and gore i;ve ever seen in a "Horror" movie. the idea of that girl crawling out of the TV reminded me of poltergeist and DEMONS, so that was not too original either. also the scary atmosphere was missing in the ring.
dont get me wrong, i dont HATE the movie. it just makes me wonder that (for example) "the gates of hell" is said to have huge plot holes or "the beyond" is said to have no plot at all. so i think its kind of strange that the ring gets a rating of 7,6 here at IMDB, while "gates" gets only 5,8 because of the "lacking storyline".
Le notti erotiche dei morti viventi (1980)
worst "zombie" film ive seen
its been quite a while i watched the movie. i rented it because i thaught it would be some funny trash like "zombie holocaust", but i was wrong. theres nearly no gore, no story, 3 zombies (or something), no FX, JUST PLAIN NOTHING! just stupid disgusting hairy (!!!) 70-ish porn. (i watched the full uncut version by astro). that was no fun.
Jason X (2001)
Terminator meets Friday 13th meets sci-fi crap
when i went to the videostore and got jason x, i did not know what to expect from the movie. some said it was awesome, others said it sucked. The beginning is quite "jason-ish", but from the point on when they find frozen jason in the future, the movie sucked. although i was surprised and happy about brutality (like in 80s splatter flicks) finding back its way into entertainment lately (just think about the frozen head crushing scene in jason x), the movie still sucked. all the spaceship flying around and that other VR-sci-fi stuff was stupid and it seemed like they had no ideas how to finish the film, so they just invented some stupid sci-fi spaceship stuff (which has also been seen 1000 times before). the worst point about the movie are the computer animations. they look like in a 1999 or something video game, are not convincing and make the whole movie look (more) cheap and ridiculous (as it already was).
the idea for jason x was already stupid, but what they made of it was even worse.
on a scale of 10, i'd give Jason X a 3.5.
28 Days Later... (2002)
Overrated.
i went to the cinema with high expectations, but they were destroyed throughout the movie. the beginning is really kinda cool, but from the point when they (i even forgot the characters names) meet the father with his daughter, the movie is just boring. it offers nearly no story, the gore i was waiting for didn´t appear and the end was also stupid.
seems like somebody wanted to mix up dawn of the dead (the apocalyptic thing, being surrounded by zombies) and argento´s demons (the way the infected are shown) but kinda failed. better go and watch DotD or demons instead if you want to be entertained.
i´d give this movie 4.5 out of 10.
