The Watcher (2022)
Intriguing yet infuriating
The story is the only element that kept me going. I'd say there was so many human behavioural pieces left out, for example, they find out there are tunnels under the house and wele never see anything about it again, nothing. No inspection of the so called living area, nothing.
What was the purpose of the last scene? To try and make the audience angry?
Mixture between a hallmark drama, scream film and modern family.
Each character is depicted as gullible, there is no empathy amongst any of the characters and quite serious human issues ignored. Basically all of them are nasty people (except the son).
Bloodlands (2021)
Almost had it but not quite
There was some really strange dialogue in this show.
Police asking for evidence and then explaining that this evidence could be crucial to solving the case it by far the stupidest thing I've hurt on telly in a long time.
Kept me interested enough to watch the 4 eps and bar the random faces from the lead male actor it was watchable , just not something I'll think about again
Gemini Man (2019)
Didnt work for me, flat
This was a hard watch, the CGI was fine but the characters and dialogue was basic. I just kept getting annoyed with the filming and shots during conversations. Face on filming didnt work here.
Odd setups, also how they weakened the female character for no reason was a cliche.
Was a meh film. The scene when the two leads met however was really fun and entertaining, the rest was not worth it.
Code 404 (2020)
I struggled with the stupidity
This show was a huge struggle for me, the humour is very cheap but that's not always bad, it was too often and rarely hit the nail on the head.
For me they missed the balance of 'silly' and it went 'stupid'.
Solid actors.
Coffee & Kareem (2020)
Annoying at first but it grows on you
So, I struggled for the first 30 minutes as the child character is so unbelievable and annoying HOWEVER there was enough scenes during the middle and near end parts of the film which made me opening laugh out loud which is rare for me so tough it out.
Fisherman's Friends (2019)
Unexpectedly good, really good uplifting film and story
On a domestic flight with time to kill I chose this film to get me through it, very happy I chose it too.
Local, family, togetherness, heart, soul...beautiful film with a good few chuckles in it for good measure.
Wounds (2019)
I think I got it...no wait
So it started well then got progressively worse and then ended with...well nothing.
It tells a story of rituals, kids in a car, wounds that are portals etc.. but it's all a bit of a mess. The main character did his best and that's the only reason I could watch it all.
They took the phone, they gave it back, they possessed his gf? Cockroaches?
Don't bother
Frenzy (2018)
Learn to swim first
How can none of them know how to swim?
Forget the cgi, acting etc and the sharks that growl, you must learn to swim first. Wow.
Close (2019)
Skip the first 30 minutes
The start of the film is promising with an instant action 5 minutes, what follows take you completely out of the 'zone' with some stupid start up for the film.
Next up we have a classic terrible set of 'make women sexy for no reason' scenes which could easily come from Tomb Raider 91 or an action version of 'Cruel Intentions '.
Filler montage after filler montage the film never takes off. Poor acting or poor script writers I couldn't decide.
Don't bother.
IO (2019)
What was it about
Seems Netflix are trying to fire out film after film.
After the film ended I asked myself "sooo what was it about ". It was a nothing film.
Beast (2017)
Dark and beautfiful
A nice thriller filled with tension, passion and violence.
Not a fast paced film but not slow, moves subtly in the way a good thriller does.
The Snowman (2017)
Why even call it the snowman
If you have read the book or even been told about it then avoid this film. I watched the film first and my partner filled me in on what seemed like an amazing story. Unfortunately we didn't get to see an amazing story, we were given completely irrelevant sub stories. When you finish the film you think back instantly and think "what was the point in half of that film?".
The acting was not bad at all, i feel for the actors because of what they were asked to be in. The first half was so slow, presumably to setup the thriller atmosphere, it didnt work. The score was also quite comical and ruined several pivotal scenes.
I'm not happy. Read the book and avoid the film. So many amazing elements that were fundamental to the story were just ignored.
Sausage Party (2016)
Vulgar, tries too hard but visually wonderful
Imagine a 16 year old boy who has just learned how to swear, give him some drugs and say 'Hey Timmy, lets write a script'
I found the beginning of the film hard not to laugh at but I don't think I was laughing at the jokes, more so the shock factor. After 20 minutes of what was going to be a spiral of bold language and no substance, I forced myself to stay and watch the remainder of the film.
The film went from scene to scene making really juvenile jokes and really poor puns and references comparing the food stuff to real life people (cheap and easy dumb humour).
I feel this film was for men under the age of 25. My female partner was disgusted at the last scene which showed a mass orgy of condiments (I cannot believe I had to say this in my life).
The one thing I did enjoy about this film was the visual effects, the team behind them should be really proud of themselves, especially the scene involving the 'shopping cart crash', it was done beautifully.
Conclusion: Cheap, dumb and poor humour designed for young men by adult men who cannot grow up.
A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)
Lacking in any real Intelligence
This film had the ability to be very funny, as do all comedies.
Each failed attempt at humour designed for 11 year old boys (Fart jokes, poo jokes, penis jokes and the like) was getting worse as the film went on.
As Seth is the creator of family guy you expect that when statements are read a scene swap to illustrate that 'joke' is then preceded. This does not work on the big screen.
The acting was questionable from Seth and script/dialect was all over the shop. One minute there is a ridiculous death scene followed by a sad man being comforted, and repeat.
If you are to make a film like this, then review successful films in the genre from the past and learn, not disregard what works.
The ending of the film is predictable and dull/boring. If you are to make a film like this, why not change it up, make it somewhat interesting.
In all, Seth failed hugely in this film, I found it very difficult to stay throughout the whole film, which is also way to long.
Quick cons: Same old boring jokes, a scene of drug use (dear god stop it), boy gets girl in the end, Seths acting ability. Story/Script.
Pros: Theron, Neeson and Giovanni Ribisi made this film up to a 2/10 as they are credible actors who at least attempted to improve the quality.
If you are under 18 you might like this, but if you have seen the trailer then you wont laugh.
I did laugh at one time when they were talking about "a dollar bill".
Inception (2010)
Lost interest quickly
I was OK, but I won't bother to see it again.
You can guess the ending within the first 20 minutes, predictable script in my eyes, not everybody's.
Went to watch it with 5 other people who all loved it, but I was bored for the most part of it, starts slowly and takes over an hour to get into it.
Even with this fictional film, I personally think that explanations of how things work are descriptions on what is being done still needs to be in there, but the joined 'dreaming' wasn't looked at and I thought that I was a bit daft. Even the Matrix tried to explain itself!
The acting was good but I just thought the whole story line and plot was weak and completely uninteresting and lacking originality.
All in all, the acting and special effects where good but within a poor script it won't work for me. Too predictable.
The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009)
cheesy, poor acting, need I say more?
I loved the first film and eagerly awaited the arrival of a sequel, so when it arrived I got very excited to see it.
Within 20 minutes I thought, this must have a different directer or writer but to my shock though, it has not.
It screams TV movie, and not a good one which is fitting seeing the cast is full of TV actors.
Julie Benz and the three stooges (detectives) seem to have lost any ability to act, trying too hard to be funny when it is not necessary.
Imagine CSI-Starsky and Hutch and this is close to this film. Very disappointing.
