The Northman (2022)
Good, Not Great
While I really love the casting choices, setting and action sequences, it could have been a much better movie. I really like Vikings on Prime, Vikings Valhalla on Netflix and Last Kingdom. The storyline was pretty good, but it moved too slow at times. I also didnt like how he just ups and leaves his woman after he finds out she's pregnant with his kid. Sorry, but I'm not buying that Fjoolnir's reach is that far after most of his soldiers were slain. Amleth could've had his happily ever after, but I guess it wouldn't have been much of a revenge movie if that was the case. All that said, this isn't just another Viking saga story as others have mentioned and the acting is very good. The action was right there with Mamoa's Conan remake. Like i said, it was good. Just not great. If i wanna watch something Viking related, I'll go to Last Kingdom first and use this as a backup.
Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands (2016)
Just Too Woke
Really with the Varni, smelters and blacksmiths? Horribly casted. Only liked Beowulf, Joanne, Hurt and Gisli(Vidar from Netflix's Ragnarok). The CGI was horrible and so was the storyline. Even Abrecan was horribly casted. This show just had too much cringe. I'll stick to the cgi movie thank you very much.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
You Have Got to be Kidding Me!
The perfect horror series? Are you people insane?! Thus show is horrible. It jumps around WAY too often and you can rarely tell what's a flashback or thepresent. And there's too much drama. So...boring. The scares are rare and often anti climactic. This is the worst series I have ever watched.
Rebirth (2020)
Horrible Attempt at a Remake?
The question mark was intendes because I don't know what direction they were going with this movie. It was like a horrible attempt at remaking Night of the Living Dead. The makeup for the zombies wasn't bad but the glowing eyes was so dumb and unnecessary. Also really wish there wasn't zombie dong. Didn't need to see that.
12 Strong (2018)
Decent Action Terrible Cast
Great story. Love reading about the Green Berets in Afghanistan. The story is fairly accurate. The cast is terrible though. Mainly Milo and Diller. Milo I didn't mind too much, but Peña as Diller was the worst choice ever. Guy is a terrible actor and straight cringe in this role. Still good enough for me to buy. People giving this bad reviews are beta males from weak countries.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Some Redemption
While there was some redemption, the same horror movie logic as always threw me inti a fit of rage with this movie. People, please keep your cell phones charged and by you at all times. Don't put weapons down. And always give the villain/s a nice solid double tap. The protagonists seemed to act well together, but I just don't buy people being this stupid in real life. And the Manson family was a bunch of cowards. Loser hippies with no future so they had to snuff the lives of good people who actually made something of themselves. I really hope they don't make a 3rd one because I'm tired of people glorifying those garbage village idiots. Like I said there were some parts that redeemed the movie but the logic drives me up the walls.
Aquaman (2018)
Story Was OK Good Action
A lot of people are being too critical or too praising. The critics have something wrong with them. Saying the guy is thuggish or a hillbilly? He's Hawaiian. Definitely could've been better, but it also could've been worse. I was a hardcore Marvel fan until Infinity War opened my eyes. They went against everything the real Avengers stood for in the last few movies. The visual effects in this are amazing. Villains were very weak. They tried too hard with Black Manta. Orn was played well but just didnt peak my interest. Bad music choices. Still thought the action was good which is why I watched it. If you want a good action movie with gorgeous visuals, give this a shot and don't listen to the haters.
Brightburn (2019)
Too Violent and Gory
Did not like the gore at all. Very over the top. Not surprised since it was produced by James Gunn. The plot did intrigue me, but I could not get passed the gore. Really disturbing. And this is coming from someone who was a diehard Walking Dead fan
The Unit (2006)
Great Start Horrible End
When I first saw this show I was blown away. I remember recording episodes on VHS(we didnt have dvr yet). Always loved watching this. Then Season 3 and the writer's strike happened and everything went down hill. The last season plays out like a bad spy movie. Plot was horrible. Should've kept this show grounded and realistic.
Midway (2019)
Great Movie for History Buffs
I don't believe the reviews I'm seeing. Cookie-cutter war movie? Dialogue isn't engaging? Go back to starbucks and get your 10 hours of sleep before film class. This movie is historically accurate and brought some of the actual veterans to tears. Casting was great. Was pleasantly surprised by Nick Jonas's performance. And the action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. It's not out to win awards. They're trying to tell a story and do the veterans and the battle itself justice which i think they did wonderfully. Not much lovey dubby content.
Joker (2019)
Best Movie of the Year
This movie was absolutely amazing. I've seen it 4 times and every time I come out of the theater thinking, "Wow. We actually got a great movie that will hold its own forever." This movie hit me in the feels. I could relate to a few of the situations in this movie and you just feel for Arthur throughout the movie. Phoenix's performance was amazing. I can't think of anyone who will even come close to this performance. Not just this year, but this decade. The closest anyone came to a performance this good was Rami Malek in Bo Rhap. The score was unsettling and somber. The cinematography made you feel like you were in Gotham struggling with Arthur. And the humor in it was very dark and very Joker. Todd Phillips really surprised me with his directing. This is how you make a great film. Joaquin did this character so much justice and they hardly borrowed from any of the source material of the comics. I did get Killing Joke vibes, but not too much. I may see this movie a 5th time. It touches on real world issues that need to be talked about, but it doesnt shove political rhetoric down your throat. It didn't make me violent. It made me want to treat my friends and colleagues as equals and with kindness. And I also wanna dance after every viewing. 10/10
The Terror of Hallow's Eve (2017)
Good Movie Ruined By a Bad Ending
So I just decided to watch this because it was ondemand for free. I knew it would be cheesy just looking at the cover, but itnwad actually better than I thought. Wasn't big on the ending because too many horror movies are going that route these days. There wasnt really over the top gore which is a breath of fresh air. It had kind of a cheesy 80s horror vibe to it. Other than the ending I'd say it's worth a watch.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Classic Rambo
The pc patrol needs to calm down. This was a good movie. Took a while to get to the action, but once it did it was awesome. Stallone is still an action movie legend. If you like action and graphic wrecking of bad guys, check this movie out.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Horrible and Atrocious
I'm sorry, but i cant stand the cgi monsters. Really takes away from the suspense. And wow Ritchie cussed...what a riot(sarcasm) Even in the first movie, his foul mouth got old quick. My friend and I had a running joke where, whenever a kid cussed, we'd turn to each other and whisper, "The F word? Are you serious?" And I just didn't care for Mcavoy and Chastain. They should've gone for unknown actors for those two roles. Hader was alright and so was the guy who played Ben, but that's it. Rest of the movie was garbage.
