Run Hide Fight (2020)
Great First Effort
Great first effort from The Daily Wire, I forgot action movies could just be about action and not a political statement. I must admit, I thought the movie was going to be more preachy and farther to the right than I was comfortable with, but no, it didn't feel like that at all. The fact that it featured a strong heroine who didn't need to remind us that she was a woman all of the time was great. What a great actress she is. The fact that she had an African American soon to be boyfriend, and it was a great relationship in which race didn't matter, was awesome. I thought the young actors in this film were awesome, the dialogue and interactions were more real than most of the high school dribble Hollywood releases. The only criticism I have of the film is that I just didn't think the reactions to some of the events were realistic. If somebody drives a van and crashes into the cafeteria, I think that would be enough for the entire school to very quickly know something was up. I'm still not sure what the evil high school girl was doing in the roof in the bathroom scene. If gun shots go off, I think there would be more of a reaction. I appreciate that DW had some excellent school safety experts involved in the film who know a hell of a lot more than I do, and I think the film showed some of the holes in school security plans, but I just didn't feel the events cause realistic reactions. So much better than Wonder Woman 1984. Looking forward to what DW has next.
The Widow (2019)
Georgia's Suitcase
Scrolled through the reviews, not sure if somebody mentioned it, but initially Georgia getting her suitcase ripped off at the airport from a thief offering to be a porter didn't seem to a scene that needed to happen. Surely, Georgia, a well travelled former soldier would be well aware of this common con. And then you'd expect Georgia to be wearing loose fitting and not form fitting clothes for the rest of the film. And then you expect somehow this theft would later have some impact on the plot which would bite Georgia on her tight jeaned arse. And maybe she'd have a bad hair and makeup day?
But none of that happened which means that either it didn't need to be in the film...or maybe it was the sign of things to come. It may have set the tone for what was to come in the DR Congo...things are not what they seem, don't trust anybody, everything you value is about to get taken from you from somebody you trust? Maybe this series is a lot more clever than some think?
