As a filmmaker and actor Patrick has made four consecutive Award Winning short films, JES AND LORA, LIFE’S A PITCH, COMPEL, and TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
Patrick began his filmmaking career producing, writing, and starring in SO, WHAT’S IN JERICHO? in 1998. JERICHO was an early example of digital filmmaking and raising money by a primitive form of crowdfunding (he asked family and friends for money and promised perks without use of the internet).
Moving to LA in 2000, he wrote, produced and directed the short films HOLLYWOOD, THE HARD WAY, THE SHABBOS BIGFOOT, and A MOCK TIME: A ‘STAR TREK’ WEDDING, as well as several industrial films for UCLA Medical.
He joined We Make Movies, the Hollywood Film Collective, in 2012, wrote and acted in the WMM Challenge winning sketch MISERY DATE as well as acting and editing multiple films for members. For five years he coordinated We Make Movies’ monthly Test Screening Series, a forum to get projects ready for festivals and distribution.
As an editor, he worked on the award winning features, CARBON NATION and ASSISTING VENUS (starring Julian Sands).
He is currently taking his latest project, the Award Winning short Thriller COMPEL to festivals around the world.
Reviews
La Bruja (2019)
Excellent film and original comic voice
I had the privilege to see this at the 2019 Palm Springs ShortFest. Thoroughly enjoyed the film and meeting the filmmakers. Writer/Co-Director/Star Eliza Cossio is an original comic voice I hope to hear more from soon.
Thirteen (2003)
Compelling and moving
Let this be a wake up call to anyone with young teen age children. This is a realistic and very frightening examination of teenagers on the edge that is, despite certain reviewers "cleverness," nothing like an After School Special. Excellent performances all around. Brilliantly co-written by Nikki Reed and Catherine Hardwicke. Hardwicke, who also directed this project with great courage and finesse, shows amazing promise and I look forward to her next film.
Piggie (2003)
Quirky unpredictable masterpiece.
This movie really went out on a limb to tell a startlingly unconventional story. I cannot imagine being more excited about a film. Savannah Haske gave a performance, not only acting-wise but musically that is one for the history books (Academy Awards go to more well known actresses for lesser performances). I spoke with her after the screening and asked if she planned to release a CD, she said the music from "Piggie" is all she has. I hope she continues to gather more musical material as well as turn in such excellent performances as an actress. Dean Wareham(Galaxie 500 and Luna), like Dwight Yoakam, may convince more than a few actors to take guitar lessons instead of acting classes, he is amazing. Robert John Burke, who plays Fannie's Father (forgive me if that is incorrect, the character list is not complete) gives a very strong and moving performance. Alison Bagnall's direction of the script she wrote with Savannah is truly inspired. Using the images that blur the line between dreams and waking life she has created a movie raises the bar for cinematic storytelling and is simply unforgettable.
The Vest (2003)
Brilliant.
Really loved this short film. I saw it at the LA Film Fest and it was a stand out among many, many excellent short films. The story is like a quirkier, miniature version of the sort of story told on the classic TV show "Children's Film Festival." The acting is excellent from every actor, especially the three leads, Skye McCole Bartusiak as the little girl (fantastic facial expression in one shot that brought the house down), Enrico Colantoni and Kellie Waymire as the parents. The photography by Paul Szopa is right on the money to tell this charming story.
