Just finished watching the second series of this brilliantly written drama. It's not the least bit fantastical as it may sound. You will not no the ending until it ends. John Le Carre for all his good works does not remotely equal this. It's not a Spy story in any way. I can only highly recommend it and sincerely hope you give a spin. I don't know any of the actors but some of the performances are remarkable. Please watch it please watch it please watch it please watch it please watch it please watch it please watch it. I am desperately trying to get this review up to at least six hundred characters which I think is pushing it a bit too far.

Ida liked to stay

The two seasons are basically as different as chalk and cheese. The first being extremely good the second being pretty much dire. Not only did Ida leave after the first season, I suspect the writers and everyone else chose to as well. Shame.

As good as it Gets

Wow. Thank you once again up STV for airing this nothing short of a brilliant TV crime drama. It had everything and lacked nothing. This is TV drama at its best. I didn't guess the end and watched hundreds of hours of this genre. An absolute gem.

Yawn

This story had all the makings of being great material for a great drama. Sadly all involved did in no way give it their all. It simply plodded along in a Luke warm fashion until it's conclusion. Ms Smith yet again gives a mind numbing flat performance. She was once brilliant. Money simply wasted by the BBC.

Superb

Very sadly this series never made it to a second run largely due they could not find an American distribution. This is not surprising because the wit is quick..the acting is excellent and nobody would be picked for the catwalk. All the above would be lost on Americans. If you want to see real acting and a love for acting just watch Bronwyn in this series.

Series 7

This particular series has been simply brilliant. Doug Henshall has acted his socks off. You just got to feel so sorry for his character..if anything could go wrong for him it will. The ending is absolutely classic and I hope it's not too long await for series 7.
Update I think it is now time to call time on this brilliant series. Tosh is seriously showing signs of boredom, her acting is little more than screwing her mouth 8in various slopes. I cannot see this series surviving without Doug. Please put it to sleep rather than drag on in agony like Vera.

Have only watched the first episode so far but it was truly excellent. Did not expect such quality drama on 5.
The acting from all members of case is of the highest standards with some very promising new faces.
Check it out.

This 4 part drama is not for the jolly hearted but instead more for serious lovers of honest drama. It pulls no punches and is as gritty as it gets. Gut wrenching from all members of the cast. Sadly this excellent seems to have passed by now forgotten.

AN IMPROVEMENT
12 November 2021
After watching seemingly endless ITV crime dramas which have been nothing short of utter rubbish at last a drama that has merit. The acting was above the standard I was becoming accustomed to. Sadly the story was weak and implausible. Maybe this slight improvement be the start of a much needed raising of the bar.

Had it not been for a wonderful performance by Anita Dobson playing Grace this drama would surely have fallen flat on its face.
The brilliant Martin Shaw has never been so unconvincing in a role since he was Doyle. I cannot believe this is a pilot as is going nowhere. If the paint has finished drying then watch it.. better still go for a second coat.

Back with a Bang Season 18
2 April 2021
Who would have thought it.
A series that has been dying on its feet over the last 4 to 5 seasons an was awful to watch- has suddenly returned to its formal self.
Most of the cast seem to have lost a bit of weight and returned to proper acting.
The story lines are tight as is the script. Well done to all members of the cast and writers. More money is being spent and it shows.
A once great series has risen from the ashes.

Predictable

Yet another ( queens gambit ) netflix series about how brilliant and strong women are. It's all becoming a cliche . The acting is very good but the story is soap and you know exactly how it's going to end. Netflix production is becoming equally predictable. Very dissatisfied.

Nope

Didn't work for me. Odd film to be sure. Very little character development with most of the cast two dimensional. If you don't understand chess it's a struggle. I suspect those who do like chess could also find fault. Add to that the ending was always predictable. Netflix seems to have lost its way.
