The Wheel of Time: Leavetaking (2021)
Is there a value lower than one lol?
Man my expectations where low, but dam they did a good job out doing themselves. This is Game of Thrones season eight bad.
If you want to make a garbage tv series you don't have to ruin great stories at the same time.
Marriage Story (2019)
A Divorce Story
A wonderfully acted and truly human movie about the impending divorce of a theatrical couple (director and actress). While the movie is intense and includes intense performances by Adam and Scarlett, it is more of a divorce story than a marriage story. The entire focus of the move is about the couple battling over their child, not over their marriage. This part of the title and story mislead me, but still it's a wonderful movie and you should delicate time watch this.
Chernobyl (2019)
Bad Science and Lies fuel "Chernobyl"
"The Truth doesn't care about our needs or wants. It doesn't care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait for all time. And this, at last, is the gifts of Chernobyl"
Valery Legasov quote of the series which describes what a solid portion of the feature is about. The destruction caused by lies.
Ironically, this didn't dissuade the producers of this series from exaggerating, sensationalizing, and flat out lying about the events of Chernobyl.
The level of inaccuracies and regarding radiation and it's lethality and spread are exaggerated to an insane degree. (Read one of the dozens of articles about it, I preferred the two by Forbes.)
Hopefully, people will research the real history and learn about one of the safest form of energy production.
While I cannot speak to the historical accuracy of the costumes or culture, the characterization of radiation makes this borderline propaganda. Soviet Russia would be proud.
Side note: Look into the recent wildlife resurgence in and around Chernobyl. Groups of mammals have returned in abundance, including elk and wolves.
(as seen on Our Planet: Episode 8 I believe)
Dogs (2018)
Humans over dogs
Not as much about dogs as the title leads you to believe. More about human stories and how dogs play a role in them. Episode 2 is particularly political and non-dog based. That episode deserves a 1-2.
As someone who has had to move around considerably and leave their dog behind the pushier aspect of the series got old quick. Tell me stories about the human/dog relationship.
The book"my life in dogs years" would've made afar better series.
Coco (2017)
Good, but felt more like a strong modern Disney movie than a Pixar quality.
I just watched this on Netflix and was rather excited. I remembered the hype when this came out and how strong of reviews/ratings were on IMDB. I'm not going to go deep into the story, but I will say I enjoyed myself and it is certainly worth the watch. The music is very good!...but the story is pretty basic. Some twists, some comedy, something about family values, you know a modern Disney movie; it's nothing ground breaking. This is more in line with Brave than Up or Wall-E in terms of Pixar movies. Again, I did enjoy the movie, but the don't pay attention to the overly positive reviews, unless you really enjoy the family matters moral; which to be fair, I'm not a big fan of.
Hence 8/10.
Thank you for reading.
