Return to Oz (1985)

why 10 points to the film?
26 March 2012
A reason for my 10 points to this film: This movie as many Disney films, innovates various special effect techniques, the first CGI effects sequences, besides the film scrip's takes the liberty to put in a different plane the Frank Baum characters, not a extension of first movie Wizard of Oz, nevertheless like a groan stinking like a bad undigested hamburger, The new generations give a big rank to bastard crap like "Fast&Stupid", oops, "Fast&Furious", but ignorance, lack of curiosity, also can be a big laziness in their brains to look lost gems like this, plus the exceptional performances of the cast really deserves give a big rank to the movie (nevermind if this came from Disney), always i searching of rare jewels, Disney has many good films, swimming in the ocean of too commercial titles. In fact, i'm not a consummate critic, but really disappoints see titles as Twilight lacks of innovative points can reach more rank instead rare gems like this. Its a pity.

a Sword&Magic campy humor film...not to purists of the genre
5 January 2012
Deliberately the movie has a plenty scenes of parody of the Conan the Barbarian style films, i've watched this in a BETA videocassette release, i found the end credits full of the bloopers occurred during in filming, Bo Svenson take the matter as a tongue cheek humorous attitude to make this "thrash" movie, added the special effects Ed Wood trademark, for many late adolescents won't take this movie seriously, but a nostalgic feeling comes companies in remember the movie, of course. Not released in cinema, i found this in video if anyone want ask if this movie passed through cinema marquees, never i heard about them, only few scenes cut or may i must say were steal ed was posted in another TV spots in Mexican open TV networks...but this film cab be found in the thrash movies sharing place with Udo Bowel or Allen Smithee films.

unworthy, some classics deserve more respect
7 December 2011
I suspect the multiple Nietszche references was deleted and this remake was done in the "politik correctness" manners to not offend some people, by the way, the multiple patches sewed in this remake really quits off the tasteful meanings and color of the Robert E. Howard roots to became in a "happy, pang-pang-jump-air spinning-martial arts and action sequence...as a pancake full of air bubbles inside but too flamboyant look.

A pity for Marcus Nispel, this director shows more artfulness in other movies as Pathfinder, in this movie seems was made with line above him to diminished all his skills to obtain a forgettable movie.

Still being rumbling the great speech for nations
17 August 2011
In the film, Cantinflas play the role of one of many public servers like anyone you can find in México: The mocking tone in the references of Mexican political class, nowadays remains unchanged, other faces came and goes there, however corruption and nepotism prevails...during the Cold War, México's politicians always searching stand in the middle but for more, the balance hangs to the right side, preferred to being closer to North American ("Los Verdes"=The Greens=Capitalists) instead to the Socialist Block (in the Movie referred as "The Colorados"=The Reds=Leftist or Cummunists)and the not alienated countries (as "Los de Dulce"=The marmalade flavored tamales=The countries in there without clearly influence of any of the two blocks). In the movie, Lupitos (Cantinflas) ahead a Janitors and Police Corps putsch in The Republic of the Cocos , Lupitos is designed a plenipotentional ambassador in Pepeslavia, similarities between The Eight Group convention and the Summit reunion to sign the destiny of nations, based in Lupitos vote, to unlined all countries in the block that obtain the majority of votes. The memorable Cantinflas-Lupitos's speech (the high top of moments of the film, previous the typical comic plotting of the Capitalists and Communists ambassadors for boodle Lupitos vote, lavishing in favors and prizes to get it) go straight to the deficiencies of both politic and economic doctrines explodes in the faces of Communists and Capitalists in this ultimate summit, pointing the disasters unchained in all third world, the misery, populations in one foot to the starve, war and terrible levels of poverty, repression and prosecution of dissident ideas, critics without concession to Capitalists or Communists, to finally saving to doomed all third world to be summit to influence of any of two power's countries .

Salmas Khalo trademark for Disney
7 March 2011
Salma Khalo's movie grabs many references from the other movie about, Frida: Naturaleza Viva (1984, not 1986), but not the important thing about her shows in the movie, in fact, deliberately (i don't know who had this brilliant idea) twist all the controversial faces of Frida and the contribution to Socialist movement, the support to Sandinist Armed uprising in Nicaragua , instead Salmas wants count us a tale with aspartame; to American market a friendly face of the real anti-capitalist Frida Khalo.

just nothing more to say about this film, it worths watch it only for the BSO, edition, scenarios, the Frida Khalos masterworks of course, (but not for biographical references, please, take a book and read it) and cinematography, but the content, is like a big pan cake filled with...air

...amoral violence...c'mon!!!!
4 October 2010
The naysayers always forgetting some points of view inside this movie, of course, violence over children isn't new today, but the missed point it's too simple, child generations today are capable of spread more violence than adults... yeah, Internet and the phenomenon of YouTube, tweeter, myspace and other social web rings only make more easier a kind of new values coming and raising from the mass media: violence over our kids become more violent kids and the pleasure of watch a bunch of muth@f*ckers beating to death their victims without motive isn't enough to think something wrong is happen in our "society"?, children involved in war, forced to be recruited in militias, children victim of abuse or children in a gang war...etc, etc OK...really stupid entertainment, but conscienceless, of course not
