Poor Things (2023)
An Abysmal "Film" that proves the Oscars are a joke
This movie was one of the most unpleasant and discordant viewing experiences in recent memory. From the first frame to the final, this movie delights in being an eccentric waste of talent and time for both actor and audience. You would be better off spending your time doing quite literally anything other than giving this drivel your time and attention.
This movie wants you to believe that it's doing something profound; it isn't, this is basically bargain bin Flowers for Algernon. It wants you to believe it's being subtle; it isn't, this movie beats you over the head with its puddle deep message. This film would like you to think that it handles handicaps in a sensible and realistic manner; it doesn't, it borders on being exceptionally offensive to differently abled.
Do yourself a favor and skip this Oscar bait dumpster fire of a movie. What an atrocious and embarrassing project.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Absolute garbage.
Easily one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Six episodes of nothing happening. No intrigue, no mystery, no characters worth rooting for. It's kind of embarrassing that a show like this can even be produced let alone get scores above a two. My. God. It's atrocious.
The Stranger (2020)
Barely watchable and exceptionally frustrating.
I've never watched a show with a more unlikable cast of characters. No one has a personality, everyone just has secrets, no one can communicate effectively, and no one behaves like a human. Paul Kaye and Richard Armitage stand out but they're given virtually nothing to work with. Twice as many characters as is needed with a fraction of the plot to justify a full series. My God I've never been more aggravated by people in a television show. The wife's justification for faking the pregnancy was a tangent about some random lady at a coffee shop who faked her pregnancy, and then she suddenly tells her husband he wouldn't understand and literally runs away from him instead of just being honest. This is the highest rated Netflix Harlan Coben adaptation but it's the absolute worst viewing experience.
Debris (2021)
Doesn't hold your hand, gets better and better
An honest heir to The X-Files and Fringe. First season gets better with each episode, and proves with "Do You Know Icarus?" / "I Am Icarus" that there's a lot more to like about this show and the world it's building than the typical monster of the week format might imply.
Our Secret Universe: The Hidden Life of the Cell (2012)
The Greatest Science Fiction Story Ever Told...
Spending time writing a lengthy review of this documentary is pointless. The visuals are perfectly artistic and still biologically accurate. The information is engaging and valid, the stories engrossing and exciting. This should be required viewing for all students before they graduate - it manages to boil down about 4 months of high school Biology into a three- part miniseries.
This is simply the most enthralling and important documentary I've seen since Planet Earth.
Visuals - 10/10 Presentation - 10/10 Information - 10/10 Importance - 10/10 Intrigue - 10/10
Community: Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking (2011)
Best show on television, hands down.
I'll keep this short and sweet: this episode is another example in a long series of episodes that clearly show how strong this show is. There is not another show in the history of television that has done what Community has - successfully construct a cast so well-rounded and deeply flawed that their antics make sense in any and every situation imaginable. From "Modern Warfare" to "Basic Rocket Science" to "Epidemiology" and all the way down to "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons," this cast and these writers is perfectly capable of any form of successful television. Pierce's manipulative manner comes to a head in this episode and as the episode unfolds in a very The Office-like form, the cast is given the opportunity to give intermittent commentary. It works flawlessly, and I honestly am having such a hard time judging this season that it's discomforting to think TV Guide considers the show likely to be canceled.
A fantastic episode. But as usual, even the worst episodes of Community stand head-and-shoulders above the best episodes of almost every other show on television.
