Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
Like an old school RE, only better!
At last a proper RE game. Super creepy atmosphere and ambient sound. A genuine terrifying experience. First person view, gets you immersed into the sick world of terror. Good old Capcom is back!
Okja (2017)
Ok but mostly long and boring
I found myself being overly bored with this one from a point on and i dont do that. All characters have this cartoon-ish kind of behavior and you notice a misplaced theatrical-satirical aspect overall.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays a highly annoying hysterical character which is quite difficult to follow and Tilda Swinton over-her-head character, will bend your remaining will to keep watching.
Technically though the movie is good and Okja looks and feels as a real thing.
All and all, i wouldn't recommend this for kids or adults. Who i would recommend this to? I honestly don't know.
Solace (2015)
It fails to make me connect to any of the characters.
As always i don't watch the trailer before seeing a movie so i didn't know what to expect, except Hopkins. After seeing it, i found the script to be average and the plot nicely balanced. The story is interesting in some ways but it was told in a cheap and non-cinema friendly short of way.
Nonetheless, as it's usually happens with great actors they drew too much attention to themselves leaving the rest of the cast kind of stripped if they cant compensate the gap.
Moreover, where Hopkins is absent the scene looks empty and shallow. Morgan looks kind of detached from the whole set and Abbie despite delivering her character smoothly and having a great ass and all, she's not really there. On the other hand Farrell does perform as he is expected, delivering the intense and the drama i was hoping for from the bad guy.
Sadly, not in one scene i wasn't engrossed in to the story. It seems that there is always something distracting which really doesn't help the poor storytelling procedure.
All and all, unfortunately the film fails to make me connect to any of the characters, despite i've been in multiple close encounters with the medical aspect of the movie in my family. Fortunately though, it wasn't projected as a sequel to Se7en, which it would have been a massive disaster and a utter disappointment.
The Man from Earth (2007)
What if..
I sat to watch this one without knowing anything about it, not a thing.
At the beginning nothing prepares you for what is about to come.
The line that opens Pandora's box came to me as a punch in the stomach because somehow i knew that the character was dead serious and not crazy at the same time.
Despite the disorientating music in many scenes and the rather bad picture quality and lighting it immerse you to it's plot more and more as it gets deeper and deeper to it's story. Τhe roughly made finale hopefully does not manages to spoil the whole experience.
All and all we need more of this kind of movies.
