What the hell is going on in the entertainment world? First off, we have to put up with completely dumbed-down television; more and more soaps and awful reality TV shows. The viewing public is being spoon-fed so much mind-numbing trash, that it's a wonder most kids under fifteen can string a sentence together.
Okay, it's been evident since the eighties that many of the big decision-makers in Hollywood are out of touch with their audience. Every year, us, the audience are subjected to probably six or seven terrible films for every decent one. It seems that whatever was most recently 'in' is replicated to the point where the audience get sick of seeing it, at which point the original film is treated with contempt.
2000 was a bad year for quality films in general. However, the pinnacle of under-achievement came in the shape of the first 'Charlie's Angels' film. 'Charlie's Angel's is probably one of the most OVER-DIRECTED films ever made and is so disparate in its style, it ends up not having one. Homage is supposed to be the highest form of flattery but this takes the biscuit. Even the selection of source music is badly placed and over-used. For all the whispers of McG in the running as the director of the next 'Superman' film, one can't help but feel that his directorial flair is best suited to that of his origins; TV commercials and music videos because let's face it, there's absolutely no room in either of those industries for originality or narrative!
'Full-Throttle' is the bastard off-spring of its predecessor's downfall; jokes that don't amuse, action that doesn't excite (or worse, looks unreal) and the underlining subtext of female superiority.
It's hard to believe that 'Full Throttle' could be any worse than the original but it succeeds; which is kind of a mixed compliment as not many sequels succeed in out-doing their original!
My advice? Don't go to see this movie. Don't buy the DVD. With any luck the studio will get the hint and wont be subjecting us to another sequel.
