Pulp Modern: Die Laughing (2024)
A super fun horror/comedy indie anthology!
"Pulp Modern: Die Laughing" centers around a radio show host who tells a bunch of tales of horror mixed with comedy: A hilarious twist on the classic slasher, an evil mirror, a disgruntled worker on the path to revenge, an evil instigating bird, and a cheating husband.
Much like the vibe of "Tales from the Crypt" from back in the day, this is simply a fun, twisted indie film that will scare you and make you laugh at all the right times. I especially enjoyed the first story which literally made me laugh out loud, and the final story ends with a really cool, unexpected twist. If you enjoy anthology horror films that sprinkles in some of that much needed humor, this is definitely for you!
Hemisphere (2023)
Really cool Indie film in space!
I really enjoyed this film! I didn't know what to expect with a low budget movie in space, but its great direction, stellar production design, and convincing use of special effect space shots and sound was truly impressive. There's a great sense of suspense and claustrophobia throughout and never a dull moment.
I thought the cast, especially the two leads, really shined and had great chemistry together. Not so easy when the cast is just two people most of the time. I also didn't see the reveal at the end coming at all.
Definitely worth a watch if you like a good indie drama/thriller in space! I highly recommend this one.
Extramundane (2022)
A suspenseful indie thriller worth watching!
A new building manager during the height of the pandemic takes it upon himself to solve the mystery of why so many people in his building have gone missing.
The cinematography's film noir style keeps it creepy enough to keep us constantly worry about what is lurking around the corner, behind the door, or under the desk. Everyone is a suspect too, so it was fun to try to figure out who was involved and why. You really start root for the main character and the ending was not what I expected!
I love discovering new indie thrillers with heart and was glad to find this one. Really enjoyed watching this!
La Inevitable Muerte del Cangrejo (2022)
I really enjoyed this indie!
I love how the suspense builds and it's so hard to predict how far it will go and what's going to happen to the two main characters. Well shot, directed and, acted. It's also not a long commitment with an hour fifteen runtime. I definitely recommend checking this film out!
Boston2Philly (2016)
I really enjoyed this film!
The dramatic and tragic backstories for the 4 main characters are very rich, real, and relevant. Using the very outside-the-box classroom assignment was a very clever way to force these characters together. Make sure you stay after the credits - the one loose end left hanging is tied up well!
The Misadventures of Mistress Maneater (2020)
Funny, dramatic, and fun!
I really enjoyed the tone and humor of this indie film. It's hilarious from the start, but it's the drama and "more than meets the eye" characters that kept me engaged all the way through. The two leads really shine and the plot really covers a lot of genres: comedy, drama, and rom-com with a bit of mystery to go with it. I really enjoyed it!
Greatland (2020)
A truly unique futuristic sci-fi film
I can't say enough about the impressive direction, production design, cinematography, and overall visual look of this film. An original sci-fi story that changes tone about halfway through in a cool way, keeping me engaged the whole time. I want to know what happens next!
Einstein's God Model (2016)
Really cool sci fi indie!
This one really messes with your head with the science and trippy afterlife stuff. I especially loved the scene about Einstein's diagram from his lesson in Princeton. Very well written with some good surprises and the special effects were great! Definitely worth checking out.
