The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Weak storyline
This show is a visual treat. There was a lot of investment in graphics/animation, backdrops, photography etc. And it clears shines here.
The story telling, however, is a plain bad. Random events happen in different parts of the world in each episode. They do not come together to form a cohesive story though. This makes the audience to tune out.
It is surprising that someone thought - riding on the back of a popular series with cool graphics is a success recipe without investment in story writing. This first season will go down as a failed attempt even when the huge budget was spend on production.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Why end a movie just to open a possibility for another?
---Has spoilers---
I hate it when the point of a movie is primarily to open the possibility for a sequel by not taking the movie to its logical conclusion.
Having said that it is feel good movie with a original story line and good character building. It was clichéd at places.
Outside the Wire (2021)
Save your time and watch another movie
The end will make you clinge even if you are generous to forgive the cliched plot.
Blood of Zeus (2020)
Had potential!
Got me hooked after the first episode. A typical Netflix series - twists kept me hooked but the overall plot had too many gaping holes to make it truly entertaining.
There are definitely better animation movies/series out there deserving your attention.
Tears of the Sun (2003)
Avoid it - defies logic
A veteran "Special-Ops commander" decides to defy direct orders and decides to take on a mission to save 70 odd refugees while putting his men's life at risk out of the blue. The rationale to take such a drastic decision is never fully explained.
The commander also willfully interferes with internal politics of the country, by choosing to protect the son of the president son, from the rebel forces. This movie tries to brew a strange cocktail of human suffering and action and doesn't do a good job at either of them.
A painful watch.
Madangeul naon amtak (2011)
A heart touching movie
A simple heart moving story.
I was initially hesitant to see a South Korean movie with English subtitles. But I am glad I did. It is a story which will make you feel emotions that you forgot as one of the reviewers said. The story starts with a poultry hen, Leafie, wanting to be free. Leafie starves herself, so that she faints and is thrown out considered to be dead. She is then attacked by a weasel just to be saved by a duck. She is infatuated only to find him already in a relationship. It is a bumpy ride from there.
She happens to mother a duck and takes care of him. When the duckling grows older he rejects her for being different and calls her an abomination. The duckling gets captured by the farmer. Leafie rescues him with her friends. The duckling then starts understanding her love.
Don't forget to watch the ending and have a lot of tissues handy :)
