Hellboy (2019)
Surprisingly good
I never wanted to watch this film and only put it as something playing on my TV as I fell asleep. Only problem was the movie hooked me in the first 5 minutes and I was pleasantly surprised.
Yes it's a new hellboy but that doesn't make it bad. He is actually very good and the creatures carry the film well as does an interesting story. Never a dull moment in this film as the non action parts expose Hellboy's comedic side.
It took me 4 yrs to watch this and I wish I had given it a chance sooner. This movie is fun and entertaining and the creature features make you not want to miss a second. Very well done 8 out of 10.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Outstanding
Ignore the negative reviews as some obviously have an anti Disney agenda to trash anything Disney makes. This series is far and away the best Star Wars story Disney has made. Yes even better than The Baby Yoda show which I loved.
This series while only 6 episodes long perfectly tells how Obi-Won Kenobi has been spending his time since the rise of the Empire and equally shows what the Empire has been doing as well. Many surprises await with intense drama and thrilling action sequences.
Again I'll never understand the negative reviews as it seems some just want to pick on Disney Star Wars no matter what and while the 3rd trilogy wasn't that good this series brings Star Wars back to it's roots. Outstanding 10 out of 10.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Adrenaline rush with heart.
Very interesting and well done action film. Soldiers from the past come back in time to recruit people of the present to go into the future to fight a war that humanity is losing to an alien species.
What the people are never shown is what exactly they're up against and when they finally do see it's a jolt to the system for them and for the audience watching the movie.
The creatures are terrifying and the tension of fighting them lasts throughout the film. Chris Pratt plays a science teacher who is drafted into the war as he is of special importance to the war effort in a way I won't divulge here.
The action scenes are incredible and scary at the same time. The story warps from your typical action film to an emotional heart wrenching story of faith, family and second chances.
This is one of the best films I've ever seen and left me exhausted by the end of it. Great story great characters and great action combined to make one heck of an entertaining thrill ride of a movie. It's one I will definitely watch again.
Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (2008)
What a waste.
Hey I know let's start the movie off with shooting a dog with a shotgun 4 TIMES and oh sure the dog is will still be yelping after the 3rd shot. Ridiculously dumb movie that's a cheap rip off from the first cheap rip off original that at least had entertaining characters unlike this mess.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Resurrections Rock!
Judging from the early ratings it's obvious many didn't understand the film. The Matrix Resurrections did exactly that in bringing back not only the characters from the previous trilogy but continuing the story as well.
Everything made perfect sense IF you watch closely and pay attention. I had no problem following the story of how the the resurrection of Neo and his quest to find out what's happened since the truce with the machines so many years ago.
Good build up with great action scenes leading to a thrilling climatic ending made this an excellent addition to the Matrix universe.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Halloween Kills delivers the thrills
For the 2018 Halloween reboot I wrote how that movie could've been so much more as many things were left out but Halloween Kills made up for it in a big gruesome way.
Halloween Kills not only delivered the kills but the thrills and a good backstory that was missing on the previous film. Questions about just how Myers was captured on Halloween night 1978 was finally revealed with a thrilling flashback to that fateful night. That is something that should've been in the first film.
This film also brings the entire town into play as well as some familiar faces as they hunt for Michael Myers. There is good suspense reminiscent of the original 1978 film along with some very violent scenes as Michael Myers is more evil than ever before. Overall it's a step up from the previous film and an excellent lead way into the next Halloween movie.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Battle For The Ages
This movie delivers exactly what you would hope for in an epic clash of the titans. King Kong and Godzilla battle it out to see who the true titan is and they did not disappoint.
The fight scenes were amazing and a good twist at the end. For those criticizing the story must have expected an Oscar winning script which is ridiculous expectations. Sure there were some flaws in the story but the story did get to Kong and Godzilla on screen more than enough and we got to see more emotion from these titans than ever before.
I give this a 9 out of 10 because it exceeded my expectations of seeing a titanic battle between Kong and Godzilla and had a surprise to the climatic final fight. If you want great action with the most realistic looking versions of these two Titans of cinema you will enjoy Godzilla vs Kong.
Disturbing the Peace (2020)
Low budget but a decent film.
Yes this is a small low budget movie but does that make it a bad movie? No it doesn't. We've seen this story before as the good guy tries to save his town from the bad guys but they change it up a bit in this movie.
Guy Pearce is great as usual playing the good guy Marshall tasked with defending his town from a motorcycle gang. Yes cheesy at times sure but never boring and a surprising good performance by the leader of the motorcycle gang played by actor Devin Sawa best known for the lead role in Final Destination.
Overall it's a direct to video low budget 90 minute film that will keep your attention and if your a Guy Pearce fan you shouldn't be disappointed. So grab some chips and a cold one and sit back for a decent film.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
A new spin on a old story.
No spoilers here but judging by all the negative reviews I would guess they most likely didn't like the movie from the first 5 minutes. The story doesn't EXACTLY follow the previous films but it does somewhat hence the new spin on this classic franchise. That's not saying it's bad as I can understand the direction they choose to take but it is a little disappointing which again could result in many negative reviews for the story.
Now on to the film itself. With this being the 6th film in the franchise I hoped to see this film show the newest model Terminator doing something I've never seen before and it did not disappoint. The first action sequence was fantastic and the newest Terminator model is as terrifying as you would expect. Linda Hamilton reprises her most famous role as Sarah Connor who is still the bad ass we remember from T2 and of course Arnold is back as a more humble Terminator. The real star of the film is MacKenzie Davis who plays a half human/cyborg designed to fight off the newest killing Terminator machine.
Overall it's a very different story BUT also a very entertaining film. The story however different does make sense and the action scenes are top notch. If you're open to a different unique story you will like this movie and if not you will not even give it a chance. I gave it a chance and I was glad I did.
Riddick (2013)
Love Riddick the character but not this movie
Long boring dragged out manhunt on a Mars like planet. Not sure what the purpose was. It had no feeling to it and it kept playing out the same sequences with different characters over and over.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Hated it the first time, loved it the second time
LIke a lot of people I expected a western called The hateful 8 to be action packed but this film isn't action packed at all. After watching it the first time I was disappointed in the lack of what I was expecting it to be but I also laughed about it for days and couldn't get it out of my mind.
The movie is full of the best dialogue you will ever see. The characters are interesting, engaging and hilarious. The acting is top notch and the story never gets boring even for a 3 hour movie.
So yes I wanted more action the first time I watched it. I decided to watch it again a year later and enjoyed every second of it and I've seen it a least 5 times now. I love watching it on a cold wintery day with a bunch of snacks and hot cocoa and lmao for 3 hours.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
Very emotional
I sense most of the bad reviews are attributed to one's opinion of America in general and not of this film or the historical reference to the events of December 7,1941. As painful as it is to admit for some that yes indeed America was sneak attacked by Japan and this film does portray the events of that horrible day. You can't sugarcoat war and Michael Bay sure doesn't as he shows the gruesome side to the Pearl Harbor attack that we all know happened. The film itself is a bit long but we all know why we're watching and once the attack begins it becomes very emotional.
Crawl (2019)
Edge of your seat thrills
If you've never been around alligators or been in a hurricane you can sense the anxiety of what could happen being in the middle of both and that's exactly where Crawl takes you. I was on the edge of my seat as I watched this movie. The alligators were terrifying and the tension never lets up even to the final second. I will recommend this to everyone and get ready for a thrilling ride.
Spenser Confidential (2020)
Surprisingly good from Netflix
Most of the movies from Netflix have been underwhelming to say the least but they finally have a gem with this movie. I was surprisingly entertained by Spencer Confidential. Mark Wahlberg played his usual tough guy role but also added a nice comedic touch that was unexpected and entertaining. A relative newcomer Winston Duke stars as Wahlberg's roommate as they share a room under the roof of Alan Arkin who always delivers a fantastic performance. The 3 develop great chemistry and deliver lots of action and laughs. Bookeem Woodbine, Iliza Shlesinger round out a very entertaining cast with a surprise debut from Post Malone. If you want 2 hours of fun entertaining action with laughs this movie delivers 100%.
Joker (2019)
How a man became the Joker
The best thing about this movie from a comic book character is the fact there is nothing comical about it at all. In the Joker we witness the reality of how the Joker came to be. From a struggling man trying to cope with his problems and demons to the pressures that society places on moral conduct you really get inside the mind of Arthur Fleck aka the Joker. You feel the frustrations and tension building inside him as he descents further into the maniacal Joker. Joaquin Phoenix delivers an outstanding performance and director Todd Phillips shows us how a character like the Joker is born. With excellent storytelling and a mesmerizing performance by Joaquin Phoenix the question of how someone could become the Joker has been answered.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Outstanding action flick
For all the negative reviewers this is a John Wick movie. It's supposed to be an action packed adventure and not a slow built up drama. This film delivers the action big time and Keanu Reeves is outstanding as John Wick. Halle Berry turns in a fine performance and even her dogs get in on the action. If you're expecting anything but an action packed thrill ride then sure you won't like this film but what kind of movie do you expect when John Wick has a 15 million dollar bounty on his head? Top notch action from beginning to end is why I give John Wick Parrabellum 9 out of 10.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Amazing
If you're watching a Godzilla movie and criticizing the writing then why watch the movie in the first place? It's a Godzilla movie for crying out loud lol. As a fan who has seen every Godzilla movie I was thoroughly entertained with the latest film. To see the classic monsters from the old Godzilla movies back in all their technological glory was amazing. The special effects really shine as the monsters looked more real than ever. There is 10 times more action than the last Godzilla movie and the fight scenes didn't disappoint. A very good entertaining Godzilla movie.
Us (2019)
Good horror flick.
Many other reviewers are stating this was one of the most overhyped movies ever and that may have lead to many negative reviews. I however never paid attention to the hype and didn't even see this until a year after it came out. Without knowing anything about it I went in with an open mind. The film did what it's supposed to do. Draw my attention and keep me entertained for 2 hours which it did. A family on vacation being terrorized by what looks like their exact opposites only to find out the entire city is having the same problem. Sure there's some over the top moments for dramatic effect but the premise is unique and the tension kept the movie moving along at an intense pace. Keep an open mind and don't take this too seriously as it is a horror film and you will find this movie highly entertaining.
The Irishman (2019)
Borefest
Boring boring boring. If you like watching 3.5 hrs of people talking and talking and talking then this is your kind of movie. I honestly only watched 2 hrs before I couldn't take it anymore. It's just one long conversation after another after another. This is the most overrated movie of all time.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Closure to a great series
Avengers INFINITY WAR was the best in the series so my expectations were low for the follow up. This movie dealt more with substance than style and is completely different than all the other Avenger movies. Definitely the most emotional movie of the series hence why they called it Endgame. Yes it's long but the characters carry the film much more than the action does. I enjoyed the film and may watch it again sometime. It was very good and delivered a fitting end but not the type of Avenger film you would want to watch again and again. That film belongs to INFINITY WAR.
The Predator (2018)
Not as bad as user reviews.
Predator 2018 is not as bad from the reviews others have posted. In fact it is a very good entertaining movie. The main cast is an assemble of outlaw soldiers that have good chemistry and makes the movie work. Many times I laughed at how well each character played off one another to deliver good funny moments. You would think these guys had been friends for years. The Predator scenes were awesome and surprisingly gory as many of the kill scenes showed new and innovative ways the Predator kills his prey. As a fan of all the Predator films this one holds it's own. Good action with just the right amount comedy mixed in made this film highly enjoyable.
Halloween (2018)
Could have been so much more
I gave the original 1978 Halloween 10 out of 10. When I heard how this new Halloween would be a direct sequel to the original I was very excited. This movie actually has a good story but they made this movie more like a drama and not a scary thriller. First off the famous Halloween music was hardly used. The tense music you heard when Michael was creeping behind bushes and staring at houses in the original was missing. That was his music but every time he was on screen there was hardly any sound at all. Second there was no suspense to this film. Michael returns to Haddonfield after 40 years and right away starts killing random people as soon as he gets there. The whole tense buildup and stalking that made the original so terrifying was missing. Third there should have been some flashbacks to the original Halloween that showed or explained how Michael Myers was captured in the first place. Jamie Lee Curtis was great and Michael Myers did have good moments but scary it was not. They could have done so much more to make it scary but they left out the fundamentals from the first Halloween of the music and the slow deliberate stalking from Michael Myers that made the original so scary.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween Timeless Terror.
This movie gave me nightmares for 40 years. The unique thing about Halloween is how it sucks you in as soon as the music starts playing. You literally feel like your inside the movie. You could feel the tension and fear when Myers is stalking his victims. I can still hear the audience shriek in breathtaking terror as did I when he rose up and turned his head after being stabbed. When he started to strangle Jamie Lee Curtis I remember saying to myself oh no he's got her. Then after he was shot and fell into the yard the fear I felt didn't go away. When Dr Loomis looked down a second time and saw that Myers was gone was to this day still the scariest moment I have ever felt watching a movie. When they showed the inside of the house next I thought omg here he comes. Then the movie ended. On the way home I remember being in the back seat of the car looking around thinking Michael Myers was out there somewhere. This movie will always be number 1 on my list of the scariest movies of all time. Just the theme alone makes me nervous. Even if I hear it on someone's ringtone in a crowded place I get freaked out lol. Halloween is truly a timeless terrifying classic.
Justice League (2017)
Justice with humor, hope and heart.
Don't pay attention to any negative reviews for this film. For many who are Marvel fans nothing DC comics will do will be right. Personally I love both and won't pick sides judging which is better. Justice League delivers all the action and special effects of any marvel film but what makes JL stand out is the relationship of the league. You see the human side of these superheroes each with faults which we can all relate too. This film has a very good story with a strong menacing villain with great action scenes and perfect humor at just the right moments but the best thing about this film is the story of how to come together to work and care as a team.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien where art thou
This Alien film could have been the best one yet if only they included the actual Alien more. This movie had a good story with the suspense and buildup needed for the Aliens to come in and wreck havoc and just when you think it's going to happen they tease you for a minute then the movie slows to a crawl. I don't understand why the Alien creature barely gets screen time until the last 25 minutes and even then it's not enough. Ridley Scott made a 2 hour film with maybe 10 minutes of Alien time which in the end makes this movie just ok but a forgetful waste of time.
