Lovesick (2014)
This is a very funny show about sex and a whole lot of other things. On the surface, youth oriented, but in fact, full of universal humor.
Too bad there are only six episodes. This is one of the best comedies I've seen on TV in a long while. It's naughty and clever and warm- hearted all at the same time. We'll watch it again. And probably, again. The actors are wonderful. Even though it seems to be "niche" oriented -- all about young people and their lives, it's really full of humor I think anybody can identify with. There's everything here from riposte to slapstick and a lots of in between. We very much wish there were more episodes, although the last of the six did seem okay. It's a whole entity -- and it could grow. Hope to see these actors in other things as well.
Life of Pi (2012)
As good as advertised!
We just saw this movie yesterday and were amazed to see how it comes up to its hype. Perhaps the first time I have seen a movie based on a book I have read that didn't make me feel the director had left something out or (more often) falsified the story in some way. Remarkable discipline here, remarkable results. Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of this wonderful movie is the way the 3D, that much maligned technology is used to create effects that bolster the emotional weight of the story. There's no sense of having things thrown into your face, just to create the illusion of 3D. The illusion here is that it all looks very real, especially the presence of the ocean. There's sense of depth as well as of dimension. It should open the way for a lot of creative work in this medium.
