Much better than the reviews would have you believe...

I went to the cinema to see this film, and absolutely loved it. I thought it might be a bit boring (my wife's selection) but was pleasantly surprised. I really don't understand some of the reviews I have just read. The sub plots are what the film is really about and make the 'actual' story come to life. I thought that this was a wonderful piece of cinema with some great character depth. All of the cast and production team can be proud of this little gem of a film.

TV With Real Soul

A great show with just the correct balance of humour, pathos and a smidgen of education. But most of all, this show has got heart. Bucket loads of heart. Even people that don't like 'Clarkson" will warm to this show.

Cruella (2021)

Cruella is a modern classic.

I watched this because I like most films which Emma Stone stars in. She is Absolutely Fabulous in this one too. As is Emma Thompson. A modern twist on a much loved book and animated film. It is darker than you might expect, a sort of cross between Edward Scissorhands, Paddington and Joker. Oh and a great score filled with classic Rock and pop music too.

Pleasant but light period drama. A nice family watch.

Some lovely acting, great little character roles for the minor parts. Peaky Blinders it isn't, but as a family watch it is nicely paced and quite well written. Reminds a bit of Sherlock Homes with Robert Downey Jnr. Victorian Saphire and Steel. Recommended.

Gets better and better, with excellent cast performances.

I started watching this, as I had no other series lined up, saw a trailer and quite like Samantha Morton as an actress. The first episode left me a little nonplussed, as I thought it seemed a little more lightweight than I was expecting. Perhaps even gratuitous and shallow. But I stuck with it, and by episode three was hooked. Easily as good as Peaky Blinders, which is high praise indeed from an avid watcher. The characters seem to develop well and the casting is excellent. The portrayal of the Bawds from both Samantha Morton and Lesley Manville are magnificent, and a superb supporting cast brings the piece to life. It seems odd that ITV in the UK have hidden this gem away as I can only assume that it is an expensive series to produce. A mainstream channel release is surely overdue, and a budget increase for the second series must be imminent.

Under the Skin (I) (2013)

Lost me in the first 20 minutes........
1 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was drawn to watching this film for three reasons. 1 Scarlett Johansson. 2 Filmed in Scotland. 3 Nudity.... Although not necessarily in that order... The nudity, Scotland and Miss Johansson revealed themselves very quickly, I was willing to let the film play out..... However! Within 20 minutes, the action had switched from Edinburgh, to Glasgow, in the blink of an eye, where Ms Johansson drives through a group of Soccer fans, she asks for directions, obviously in Glasgow, and snares her latest prey. A gullible Leith (Edinburgh) socialite, with a Glasgow accent. Encroyable! Suspend belief she's an alien, but a Hibs Fan in GLASGOW! Beyond the pale. Unable to watch from this point on.... I appreciate that for anyone not 'au fait' with the whole Salt 'n' Sauce / Salt 'n' vinegar East / West divide in Scotland, that this is negotiable / unimportant, but, I am from the East of Scotland, and it is a major flaw. Imagine driving through downtown LA and then being transported to Seattle for a feast of vampires..... sorry, just shabby.......
