May Contain Nuts (2009 TV Movie)

Wonderful
20 June 2009
It makes a change to have a drama that isn't about failed relationships which seems to clog up TV these days. OK so there are a few plot holes but what a great idea. Shirley Henderson plays the part brilliantly. It is stretching it a bit for her to play an 11 year old, but it does work. Elizabeth Berrington is great as Ffion. Overall the whole cast were wonderful, the writing very funny and the director held it all together nicely without getting too silly. The previous reviewer obviously does not know the lengths that some people go to in order to get their kids in the "right" school, including deliberately moving nearer. This actual scenario did happen in Amereica recently. Overall great fun and a breathe of fresh air.

I wont bother with The Bourne Ultimatum
2 March 2008
There are no spoilers in this review because we all know exactly what the script is going to be. The Bourne Identity was a bit of fun if ultimately forgettable. Lots of good action, who is Bourne and a who's tying to kill who film. So if they did it once they can do it again with The Bourne Supremacy...wrong. You can only do it again if you write a new script with some new ideas in it. The Bourne Supremacy has neither of these. We have Bourne wandering around Europe trying to work out who he is and who is tying to kill him. Didn't we have that in the first film. The action scenes are fine especially the cab chase, but the script is non-existent. Matt Damon is good but the rest of the cast just look like they don't know which film they are in. They seem to be going though the motions until the next sequel. I shall not be watching The Bourne Ultimatum as I suspect we will have more of the same. On the other hand I've already watched it in the first 2 films...!!!

Sack the director
29 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
A very familiar story of getting together and forming a band and then it all goes wrong movie. Nicely acted. Looks nice. Music nice. But it was oh so slow. There was practically no script and every time a scene was flagging it was time to play the same song yet again. All the music played was very good and in keeping with the era, but it was so often used as a filler so that the movie wasn't 30 minutes long. This was a case of the studio bosses thinking Tom Hanks could do no wrong and they dare not annoy him by criticising. It happens so often. Superstar want's to make a picture and the studios allow total freedom, even though they really know it's not working, but it's worth it to keep Tom Hanks happy. The idea was nice, it just needed re-writing. But the main flaw was Tom Hanks as Director. It needed someone with sparkle. Hanks has no sparkle as a Director. It plodded on so slowly I almost fell asleep.

Great action...shame about the script
13 January 2008
Picked this up for £3 in a bargain bin yesterday, and I can see why. The box gives the impression of this masterful train robbery. Whereas in the actual film the robbery is a tiny part of the film near the end. Overall the action scenes were superbly done, but anything with dialogue was too long and dragged beyond belief. They were so long they gave me time to go get a coffee and not miss anything important. Obviously they were desperately trying to stretch the film out because they didn't really have a good script. Today a charity bag arrived and I'll be putting this disc in it. Fun if you can spin though the boring bits but not one I shall be watching again.

Stunning
13 February 2004
Terri Garr may not be everyones choice for the lead, but I think she's wonderful and hasn't made a better film. A sadly underused actress who should have been given many more leads. One of the finest forgotten films of all time. Stunning sets and even more stunning photography make this well worth seeing. The story line is minor in comparison to the look of the film. All it is is 1 evening in the life of the 2 leads. Nothing more than that. But it has to be seen to be believed.

Wonderful Film
13 February 2004
Wonderful film. One of Wilders best but only if you've been in love. If you haven't then it's not worth seeing, you'll only hate it. If you have been in love then you have 2 love stories in parallel. 1 between Jack Lemmon & Juliet Mills and the other between....well if you haven't seen it I won't spoil it. Wonderful ending
